Call them what you want but I just looked at last year's roster and I will take 6 of them. I only say 6 because I don't know the rest. Solid ball players.

I believe that Harris, Enslen and Hightchew will be playing for NCC this spring. Not sure on McHugh. Gesenhues attends HHS and apparently is not playing baseball for the Birds, rather he is working on his soccer game. I believe the others are not playing high school baseball this season in order to participate in spring football and get ready for next years football season. They will be playing an abbreviated schedule this summer and hopes are that a few of them may have a change of heart over the next few years.

Sounds like Covcath has a really good freshmen class this year. I'm sure Ryle will be good as well, Coach Collins is a very good coach.

 

Where does Ryan McGinness fit in the Colonels baseball program?

I may be way off on this one, but I think Cooper's freshman team will be very good. The only reason I say this is because of how many very good upperclassmen. In the past many of the JV teams were made up mostly of freshmen players as well as a couple sophomores. That meant the Freshman team was made up of 8th graders and 9th graders. This year they have so much talent and the Varsity team only lost 4 players from the previous year which was made up mainly of Sophomores and JR's are all still there. Only 2 starters on the varsity team last year were lost to Graduation.

 

So this year there are 17 Juniors, many of them will have to play JV. that doesn't mean they aren't good enough to play varsity, many of them are, it's just a numbers game. With only 4 spots opened up it's tough for any of the players that weren't on the Varsity team last year to make the team this year which means many of them will be playing on the JV team and the rest of the JV spots will be made up by sophomores.

 

With that said, unless a freshman is a standout pitcher and plays up, the Freshman team will be made up of Freshman and a couple 8th graders I would guess. Many of those Freshman in years past would be playing up to the JV level but with no spots available like in the past, I would think there will be several JV quality players on the Freshman team this year. Also remember the Freshman team last year onnly lost something like 5 games....I think all 3 of Coopers teams this year will be pretty solid.

 

Sorry to say watching freshman baseball is like watching the WNBA LOL

Maybe some games but a lot of freshmen games are more exciting than the WNBA. If you would've seen the Dixie v. Ryle tournament game last year, you would agree.

I somewhat agree until its tournament time. Dixie v. Ryle, NCC v. Covcath and the NCC v. Dixie championship game were well played and intense.

Do most teams allow 8th graders to play on their freshman teams? Is this the reason that there is not any middle school baseball in NKY?

I know that Walton has middle school baseball. I think most of the schools that they play are located to their south. In Northern Ky. I would think most middle school kids that want to play baseball are on teams that start playing in late March. So really there is not much of a calling for schools to have baseball at the middle school level.

Usually public schools will allow 8th graders to try out. Private schools will not unless their numbers are low. It may vary from school to school but that's how it usually works.

I did not see the NCC v Cov Cath game but was told that was intense as well. As for the championship game, it lived up to what a championship game should be imo.
