Bueter is the NC's best player and should be in conversation for POY. Just "in the conversation". He does everything out there and aside from game high scoring last night does a ton of other things. Loose balls, blocked shots, and calming the team down. He is difficult to trap as well as he finds his way out of jams. Great High School Player. Should a player be penalized because he HAS talent around him? Last night it was all Beuter until HHS finally had to come out of the zone. Then some others got theirs.

On a side note, have to commend HHS crowd for their support. In the midst of a really bad season, they did show up and represent. I thought the crowd would thin out after the girls game. Other than a few grandparents and family, most stayed.

While NCC is a fairly balanced team, Michael is clearly displayes Senior leadership. He almost always comes up big at the end of games and will be very difficult to replace.

No problem Man, I am a guy who probably should be a little more politically correct at times but I never wanted to sound like "that parent" WHO's kid never made a mistake or whose team always had an excuse. I tried to always be objective for the fans out there. Stinkyboy and Jack of All Trades will pick up where I left off.

You will be back at again in 2 years when your 6th grade player is a frosh!

Highlands had a good game plan for NewCath. Was one of the best games Highlands played all year very proud of those boys. NewCath is a very good team thought Highlands did a good job on the bigs. Beuter hit some threes in first half. McDonald had a very nice game especially in second half did great hitting free throws. Shulte had a sweet Dunk at the end of game and he dictates shots in the lane. Key for NewCath is the Pangallo kid. Boy is he fast has quick hands on D and makes great passes. Enjoy watching him play and also has one of the best 10 to 15 foot jump shot in the region. Congrats to NewCath Good Luck the rest of the way. Good Luck to the seniors boys at Highlands in the future proud of you guys.

Wasn't at the game, however, looks like McDonald was the deciding factor in the 2nd half and especially in the 4th quarter (9 points). I know he had been sick, any update on his performance tonight?

9 of Drew's pts. were from the foul line. IMO the Breds did a lackluster job of taking advantage of McDonald and Schulte down low. The steals in the 2nd quarter, Schulte cleaning the glass, and foul shots the difference in this one.

He had 13 rebounds to go with 13 points, including 9 of 10 from the line. Understand his health is fine.

Beuter is clearly the best basketball player on the floor for NCC, he has great B-Ball IQ, a smooth stroke and a quick first step. His leadership skills also are quite evident out there. He came out of that first qtr and wanted the ball to start the 2nd qtr and he drilled some big 3's. Great kid !!

Great game, great crowd, great atmosphere and electricity...

I was really proud of the way the Highlands kids avenged an earlier yr "low point" in their season.

They came out with a bit of a chip on their shoulder and just think had a few shots fallen especially since NewCath came out cold as ice, it had a hint of disaster for the number one team in the Region.

Anybody that was at the game could sense the tension in the air and at times found themselves thinking the unthinkable at times of the potential outcome.

Unfortunately for the Birds, in the end, NewCath is and was the better team, just plain and simple.

Q had to be pretty proud of the way his son and the rest of the boys played last nite...Great effort.

Good luck to the Catholics from Newport. :thumb:

I thought the officials let a ton of stuff go in this one which actually favored the Birds. I wonder if the officials are not calling much to get the teams ready for the more physical teams they will likely encounter downstate?

Here are some pics of the action compliments of a Highlands fan. There are some girls pics at the beginning as well.

Question- Maybe Clyde can assist here and I am serious because I don't know the HS rule. if a player slaps the backboard upon a shot and it rattles the cylinder enough to cause the shot that clearly was going in to not fall, Is this goaltending?

This occurred during a pivotal part of the game and cost the Birds a basket.

Yes - basket interference/goal tending..net, 2pts should be awarded.

Actually, no. This was discussed for days after CovCath beat Scott on this site, and Clyde (and others) were clear with the rule: if it is a legitimate shot-block attempt, regardless of how much the basket does or doesn't shake, it is play on.

Got it, well it was clearly a shot block attempt that failed in one way but was successfull in another. :madman:

Yeah this is a rule that needs to be changed. Makes no sense to allow this to happen.................

Just a question, Highlands floor looked great but the basket by the doors was shaking from just normal shots was something loose thanks.
