Add that to the fact that he was "startled in the pre-dawn hours" and still managed to fire four shots and land two in the head and two in the chest, and I'm smelling something fishy.

I can certainly see how one could accidentally shoot someone they mistook for an intruder, but it does seem odd he was so successful in where he shot her, but he couldn't recognize who he was shooting.

I can buy that...but the facts that there is apparently some history of domestic disputes between the two and that he was allegedly surprised, tired, and wasn't able to tell he was shooting at his girlfriend, yet still managed to make 4 very well-placed and lethal shots at that person seems very suspicious to me.
