Great doesn't describe this game. Tough for either team to lose. Great to see Holmes not fold it in when they were down 14 in the 4th. Seems like Holmes relied on Bolden a lot tonight, and he did all he could even playing through pain towards the end of the game. Hoping these two draw opposite in the region, anything less of a regional final with these two will be disappointing.

If you weren't there, you missed one of the BEST games in NKY in many years. Congrats to the Breds, the Senior Leadership on this team showed up tonight. A lot of standing around by Holmes waiting for Bolden to make something happen. Breds played team basketball, and the bigs did not allow many second chance baskets on defense. Bolden is the real deal....Pangallo showed what he is made of tonight at 60%, kid is a fighter! Brannen played 8 kids...Weyer playing the least off the bench. NewCath will have the mental edge going into the region, in my opinion this is a huge benefit!

This game rivals the NewCath/Dixie 4OT Regional Finals from 2 years ago without a doubt!!!!

 

All I can say is THANK YOU to the players from Newport Catholic and Holmes for providing all in attendence an AWESOME 40 minutes of high school basketball. Trust me, this game will go down as one of the best in 9th Region history.

Just a great basketball game. It looked like NCC was going to win by 10-15 with about 6 minutes remaining and Bolden just took over the last 6 min. IMO Siebert was just as unstoppable throughout the game. It was clear that NCC was not going to let the Bulldogs beat them from the 3 and they were like glue. Holmes did not take advantage of backdoors. NCC's size was a huge factor plus the Breds taking care of the ball. Coston in foul trouble most of the game hurt. McDonald was also and that did not help them. Englemon also had foul trouble and Schulte killed them when he was out. The Breds killed the 'dogs on the boards denying 2nd shots and getting 2-3 many times. The 1st three quarters, NCC was the much better team. The last 5 minutes Holmes got hot, mostly Bolden, it was one of those flurries you just know will some time. Both teams had a shot to win in regulation. Both teams missed the front end of a one on one in the last 45 seconds with Holmes down by one. Then with 14 seconds Bolden hits an unbelievable 3 with guys hanging all over him. Pangallo drives the length and makes a 10 footer with 2 seconds left. Both were money. In the first OT Holmes lead most of the way and lead by three with about 25 seconds on a Chames dunk. Beuter drives the basket and makes the bucket + 1. That was Englemon's last foul. Palmer went down and missed a contested layup as time expired. In the 2nd OT NCC went at Holmes inside with Englemon out and stretched the lead to 8 and made FT's, mostly Beuter, to seal it. Really it was a great effort by both teams. Hopefully we'll see these two again. It will be worth the $$. The officiating was not a factor. There are always calls you disagree with depending on who you like. The intentional foul on Chames was the right call, he pulled Siebert's arms down. Tough break but easy call. The dogs fought through it though and had their chances.

I think NC was up 53-37 at one point.

In many ways it would have been a crime if Holmes won this game. They lacked intensity and were outplayed for 3 quarters. With the bench Holmes has, there is no reason for not playing at your highest intensity and then saying next man in. Bolden was incredible. Seibert was the man for NCC. Some college coaches better be looking at him. I think New Cath is the team to beat in region 9. No one has the offensive weapons and balance they have. Their only downfall will be foul trouble because the bench is about buying minutes. Great game tonight.

What a game, great crowd, it seemed like a regional final, the good thing though, it was not, we all might get to see these two teams do battle again, cant remember when there was that big of a crowd for a none district or regional game, for a high pressure game, i thought the officials did a nice job.
