The NFL is pretty good at being judge, jury, and executioner.

It means you conspire with others but like a lot of football players Flacco has to be dumber than two bags of hammers. Remember, some audio/video is what really added fuel to the Saints bounty case.

And that is exactly why I think the NFL should investigate. They can either clear him or drill him based on a comprehensive review of the facts and evidence available.

Drill him for what? Saying something on the sideline? Bordering on ridiculous...

I agree there are probably too many negatives for the NFL to go down this road however I think the NFL taking this serious helps protect the integrity of the game.

 

Think of it in these terms everyone, if the NFL has proof (like NFL films audio and video) of players discussing how to cheat/break the rules to change the outcome of a game should they do nothing? Please answer the question in general terms.

 

I don't think the NFL can punish someone for planning to cheat. If the cheating act comes to fruition, then I think it's obvious that they should be punished. If the evidence reveals that the cheating was premeditated, then I think the punishment increases.

 

If the cheating jeopardizes player safety, then I think the league could punish the players/teams involved even if the plan does not actually get carried out. While tackling a player from the sidelines could result in injury, it's not the type of threat to player safety that warrants punishment in my scenario.

How is this different than players saying, "Im gonna knock his head off, Im gonna take you out" its no different.

But you would be investigating a crime that didn't happen correct? If my memory serves me correct from years ago you were a police officer correct? How motivated would a cop be to investigate a crime between two teenagers where one kid told the other he was going to punch him in the mouth? The punch never came because they were just spouting off in the heat of battle. Most cops I know would say no harm no foul and move on. I think the same applies here with the NFL. Is what Flacco said stupid? No question. But unfortunately there isn't a crime against stupidity.

And I'm not saying that to be a jerk or anything it's just I know that I played and we would always say stuff like this on the sidelines. Would anyone actually do it? No. It was all in good fun. Does that make me a bad person because we spoke like this? Nope. I actually like to think of myself as an upstanding citizen. I've never been arrested, or even questioned by police for that matter. This doesn't show any type of character flaw. It's a guy who knows he is one play away from being a Super Bowl champion and he is having some fun with his teammates on the sideline.

 

This same guy also had no idea he won a car for getting MVP of the game.. So take it for what it's worth.

I've never suggested something like this when I played football. And it didn't look like he was joking to me. Either way, its over and it didn't happen so id say its time to move on.
