February 3, 201313 yr Really poor PG play today for UK. Does this team lead the conference in rebounds knocked out of their hands?
February 3, 201313 yr The defense is really coming around. Coach Cal is working his way around the weaknesses. I feel that the defense will be good enough by tournament time to give the Cats a chance to win some games. Offensively, there are still many holes and inconsistency. The biggest problems continue to be poor decision making by Harrow and Goodwin and Poythress being unable to exert his influence on the floor. Goodwin's minutes were down today. Harrow almost single handedly lost the game by being the wimp that he is. UK needs those two to figure it out. I see flashes but they are still too inconsistent. Mays was great today. Polson was solid again. If he would develop into just a bit of an offensive threat, he would get more minutes. Overall, it was a great week for this team. There is still a lot of room for improvement. I trust Cal to get it out of them.
February 3, 201313 yr Really poor PG play today for UK. Does this team lead the conference in rebounds knocked out of their hands? It seems to be a trend. Offensive rebound, knocked loose and another possession for the opponent.
February 3, 201313 yr Harrow made some of the worst passes that I have seen in this one and was terrible defensively. Wiltzer is slower than (well, you know what) and can't play "D". Even with those along with several others weaknesses this team is with just 2 conference losses and in position for a high seed in the SEC tournament. I still believe by tourney time that we will be a far better ball team than now. National Champion? No. A team that a real high seed may not want to see in their bracket? Yes.
February 3, 201313 yr Wiltjer had a bad game today, compared to the his recent performances. He's had a big hand in the recent string of wins. IMHO, the key to the Cats success going forward relies heavily on the play of 33. When he's on and playing the high post, the Cats offense is remarkably better.

February 3, 201313 yr Harrow kept A&M in the game with his lazy, weak passes and poor decisions. UK can be up 8 points and have the ball and Harrow will make a couple of mistakes which leads to dunks on the opponents end of the floor, and the cushion is gone. Its not like he's a rookie. The kid has been around a while. He played one year for NC State and then practiced with a national championship team for one season. He
February 3, 201313 yr It wasnt the prettiest win but its a win and for a young team its huge! To get beat by them before and go on the road and get revenge is a big win for UK.
February 3, 201313 yr Cats are a stressful team to watch this year. Without Mayes and Noel this would have been a loss by 15+.

He is the least confident big time player I have seen in a long time. My next move in practice if I were Cal would be working with him on end of the shot clock plays. Two games in a row at the end of the shot clock at crunch time he has passed up taking the shot when he HAD to take the shot and it cost the Cats. The Cats have to improve on that end of shot clock play.

The plays you mention at the end of the game, the lazy passes, and there were a couple of drives he made where he took a bad shot instead of kicking out or making a hand-off. The problem with this team is, now, will be consistency. It's the next stage of growth, and this bunch is still growing.
February 3, 201313 yr When a big part of your offense is throw it at the rim and hope someone goes and gets it, you look like UK did at the end of the game.
February 3, 201313 yr ^ I think he is afraid to take the shot at the end of the shot clock at crunch time and I see that as either lack of confidence or fear, not wanting to miss that shot. In the Ole Miss or LSU game there was a play where he had an open look at the foul line coming off the high pick and he just gave up the ball rather than take that shot. There is also plenty of bad decision making, especially driving to the rim in one on three situations.
