Your thoughts on parents "holding back" a child for sports?

Featured Replies

Wow. Look at Ennam. Trying the "I'll hurt his feelings approach."

Rookie.

Rookie? I KNOW I have way more experience in this field than you do. You... you are the "king" of Bluegrass Preps... congrats. I'll buy you a trophy.

I think a lot of you live in a sheltered world and just have no idea what is going on out there.

I hope your counseling skills are better than the above. You just told a person who says her child hates it that she no idea what's going on. Classic.

Hoops, good news. You and your child are wrong. You haven't experience what you think you have experienced.YAY.

Rookie in that you resort to the "other people don't like you" line. You think that's original? Rookie.

Sorry to hear this, but that is not the experience we had with our son, nor is it the experience for most of the other kids. Why push kids forward who are not ready for the next level? A lot of these kids are dealing with so much more that "being held back" does not even put a dent in the car. Single, alcoholic parents who aren't involved, both parents in jail and living in foster homes, etc...

Stop with the Rookie stuff Clyde. You and I both know other than me you are probably the most hated member of BGP.

Ennam people have different opinions don't take it so personlly. You'll never have a peaceful moment if you don't on here. I'm not taking up for Clyde because he doesn't need me or anyone else to. Just chill some. Usually I just sit here and laugh at everything said. it entertains me. I hope you can enjoy it. Some people may not like BGP, that's ok they don't have to get on here.

I'm not taking it personally. I do find some of these comments very uneducated. The discussion on here is not exclusive to BP, nor is it protected just because it is being discussed on BP. Other folks are expressing their opinions and I am expressing mine. This is something I deal with every year with students... real children, so it hits home with me a little more. I cannot sit by quietly, nor laugh at some of these uneducated comments.

I have all the respect in the world for you hoops, and I have to admit, you're the only one I've ever known who says they regret it. Hate it that you feel that way, truly.

Very much agree.

I love these things. I just can't believe people try and get their personal happiness on here (smh). Don't believe we are trying to make anyone personally happy, are we?

Alright boys and girls let's not get so testy! Let's get this back to the original question. If you want to start a thread about "Who's intellect is more superior", start a new thread in the Breakroom. :eyeonyou:

I think it would have to be in the Controversial Issues Forum.

L13, what do you think about this topic?

Find them then. I'll gladly meet you face to face to debate this subject. Out of curiosity, how many children do you have? How many children have you held back? How many children's parents have you had to counsel and recommend to have them held back?

Its funny, I was at a fantasy football draft earlier this year and mentioned "Bluegrass Preps" and several of the guys there brought your username up, and only yours, and had very strong opinions about you :)

Don't take it personal, but from your posts on this subject, I would not seek or recommend you to assist in any early childhood development with any of my kids or families of kids that I have worked with. A lot of anger in you words. I see no benefit of holding kids back for athletic reasons. That's part of the problem today, instead pushing and assisting kids to get better and be better as a young person, we make excuses and take the lazy route. Let the educators decide if your kid is academically ready or not to progress forward, and the maturity will come good guidance and the proper surrounding as they grow. No excuse for holding back or repeating a grade.

I didn't want to bring up names, but could the fact that Pike was held back be an aide in his behavior. Always older and slightly bigger than his classmates giving him the sense of being the "alpha male".

I'll take dominance earned over dominance fabricated any day.

FanofMany33,

That was one of my initial concerns. Sometimes one kid being older and more mature than the others can create issues no one would have anticipated.

This is funny.
