IMO, Here's what is going to happen.

Mike Flynn will resign after this year - doesn't need the headknock.

Mike Listerman will apply and get the head coaching job. He will entice Ken Shields to become his varsity assistant and the old St. Thomas/Highlands staff will re-invent themselves. Shields and Listerman still carry enough pull there that they will get the kids out to play, and keep some of the football kids who might otherwise quit. You will see both working the cafeteria and the Junior High, as well as selling tickets at Bluebirds football games.

I could be all wet here, but don't be too shocked.............................

No Spalding ball testers need come out!

WHO knows and WHO cares? Id prefer to forget this entire Night to be honest.

Besides they only keep football récords at Highlands just ask JBWill.

I can certainly understand it coming from your perspective.

It is of interest though.

After a few years, when Willie Schlarman's kids get a little older they will pull him out of retirement to take over the reins of the newly invigorated Basketball Bluebirds.

The fans certainly dont need the headknock either.

I have múltiple contusions as it is.

Wow 49-9 after 3 quarters.

Look for HHS to drop New Cath from their BB schedule next year:)!!

Seems like you've thought about this before.

Wow, was expecting a double digit win for the Breds but nothing like this. Very impressive win. Congratulations and good luck to both teams the rest of the season.

Very interesting, but seems possible. However, doesn't Shields have grand kids that he is coaching? Do you really think he would give that up? :idunno:

He has em all through the system and could end up having some on the bench next to him.

I can't see Coach Shields coming out of retirement. I think he's is content to coach/watch his grandkids.

Interesting in deed, however for the youth in these parts they grew up trying not to be a Spalding, loving Floyd, trying to be a twin, and really thinking they were his grand kids! You say his name and my son ear's perk up! Grown adults love the Man! I would love to see him at least help in the program! Mike Listerman also has respect as his boys were players and were good students and floor leaders! I can't speak about the high school ball team but I can say some very good basketball players in the system are growing disinterested and weighing options. That can be a recipe for disaster. The only saving hope is those boys also play football.

I should add that academics play a very large part as well from a parents perspective!!!

I completely agree with lawildcat, however, stranger things have happened. Shields is definitely a great coach and very well respected by everyone. He would be a great asset to any high school program at whatever capacity. I would think that the kids and parents of HHS would be very excited at the possibility.

Birds are at a crossroads here. Either complete collapse, or they pull together. I hope it's the latter.

NCC's only misstep last night was their student section playfully starting the "Let's Play Football" chant briefly. They are a very good team that played very well. Nice to see lots of kids that I watched in grade school and AAU performing at this level.

To the NCC fans: any JV or Varsity players that also play football? I know Franzen plays, but not sure about the rest.

Quick simple question since this was my first NCC/HHS basketball game. Is it customary for the coaches to stand off to the side and not shake the hands of the opposing teams players after the starting lineups are announced and they “fist pound” the refs? Is this part of the whole “backyard brawl” thing?
