Speaking to perception about the Boone County system, I think it is important for the Boone County powers that be to both give the perception and make this an open process where they will hire the best candidate for the job.

What about coach Davis on Ryle's Staff?

They have a great Football Coach in their system already. A guy who coached in the BCPWFL for a long long time and is a winner. He used to also coach Ryle Softball when they won the State Championship. Bill Matteoli

 

I don't think they'd choose him, but he is a great football coach and great offensive minded coach too.

Count me as one of those former players. Coach genuinely cares about you as a person first, player second. That endeared me to him.

Ahhhh, you know of Bill M. I think he would be the best coach possible IMO. HE has wwon at every level he's coached, and won instantly. I will never forget when he got back into coaching football after several years away from it, he took over a team tthat hadn't won more than 2 games in the past sev years and the very first year wonn the Super Bowl with them. He then moved up to the SR division and only took that team to what I believe it was 3 straight years in his first 3 years coaching them aand won 2 of those SB's. he then left the BCPWFL and last year started coaching in the assistant area of Boone's Freshman team half way through the season.

 

He also was the coach of the Boone Allstar team the first year they started the Boone vs Campbell/Kenton allstars and won that game also.

 

He also was the coach who would take a team each year down to Louisville to play in their tournament and we were in the championship game every year he coached the team, and this was a tourney that would draw teams all over the plcae, from Chicago to Georiga etc.

 

There are 2 coaches I think if given the chance would make huge impressions and be vvery succesful at the Varsity level and that would be Matteoli and Chris PErkins/Chris Hollis team. The best coaches I've had the pleasure to be around but hasn't had the chance at vartsity level yet....been around those guys for 12 years now and they have done nothing but succeed. Very succesful. For Boone Co's sake I hope they are willing to go away from the norm and hiring a coach already at the Vaarsity level and think outside the box and get the best available and that would be Matteoli. I don't think they could ever pick a better coach period. HE is smart as a whip and the boys would love playing for him. Shoot there are already several players on that team that have already played for him, starting with Casey Boston etc. They could do much worse by going with someone else.

My son played for Bill on an All Star team that went to Louisville Rumble on the River. Nick Woodward coached that team. Casey Boston was on that team. Will Ludwig was on that team. He loved playing for Bill.
