Who are the candidates to take over at BC? Is this still seen as a plum job or has the addition of Cooper watered down the talent in Florence?

 

No idea on the candidates yet but the current Sophomore classed is very talent rich.

 

Cooper had a fantastic year but I would be surprised if they beat Boone either of the next two years.

Miserable in football recently?? Really?? Over the last ten years they are 72 and 34, including 4 HCAC league championships and 5 trips to the NCAA playoffs. Just last season they had a player from Louisville lead the Nation (All Divisions) in rushing. So could you elaborate on miserable?

 

What have the been of recent though? When was the last time they won the bridge bowl against Thomas More? TM beat them 72-6 this past season. Gotta beat your rivals before you can consider yourself good.

Cooper has had very little if any impact on the Boone program from a "watered down" standpoint. Cooper's boundaries barely encroached any of Boone's boundaries with it's creation. It had little more impact on Conner and Ryle. Having virtually the whole city of Florence and I'm guessing about 70% of all the apartment complexes shouldn't even be remotely a factor for Boone. There are a few athletes in that school that might decide to play football now that the change has taken place, depending on who they bring in of course.

I would be looking for someone from the offensive side of the ball, outside the program, with very good interpersonal skills. Is it realistic for a head football coach to also be a full time teacher? I for one do not believe there is enough time in the day to do justice to both and several of Boone's district competitors do not have this responsibility.

I agree Kyle Niederman would be a strong/only candidate if they hire in house. Even if they hire from outside, Coach Niederman would be a coach I would keep on the staff.

It's easy to do both if the school allows you the time during the day. Put the new guy in ISS or giving an extra planning period should be sufficient.

Good point Sweeperboy. The Next Head Coach thread has been started. Let's leave this one to accolades on a long and excellent career at Boone County for Coach Thompson. He began coaching at Boone County with legendary Owen Hauck in 1985 then took over the head coaching reins in 1998 when Coach Hauck retired. Boone County saw great success with Coach Thompson there over the past 28 years, success that will likely not be duplicated. Congratulations to Rick Thompson and best wishes for success in college coaching!

Is there a better adjective to use when you lose to your rival by 60+?

 

I don't follow MSJ; however, I have a friend who is a former player/coach for them and those were his thoughts about the current situation at the Mount and the talent they are attracting.

When you are a 6A school who I'm sure two platoons quite a bit, and you give up almost 33 point/game (8 out of 11 opponents scoring 31-45 points), the Air Raid is the last thing you need to be concerned with.

 

With that said, a guy that took the Boone County program to 3 State Semi appearance in the last 9 years, along witha run of 10 consecutive winning seasons just resigned. Wanting more and never being satisfied is human nature, but here is guessing you just lost a guy who was a pretty good football coach. Maybe it has a little more to do with the ole' Jimmies and Joes, instead of the X's and O's?
