I was sitting court side last night taking pictures and distinctly remember BH standing in the back court late in the third quarter waiting on the inbounds pass and saying "He doesn't want me shooting, so I won't." The ball was inbounded to BH and he just smacked it back to the guy inbounding, who brought it up the court. I remember thinking to myself, "well that was strange..." Until I noticed he didn't play any of the fourth and wasn't playing like he was against Montgomery County the night before. Odd.

I'd reply, "Grow up".

I could throw out a random number but honestly it would be a guess. Not trying to start any rumors or anything, but just remember him standing right in front of me and saying this to the guy inbounding. I do remember it being a guard, because once Hatton passed it back, whoever it was assumed the point guard role on the play.

I'd question he intelligence of any HS coach that told B not to shoot the ball. I seriously doubt that Chevy would have told him that- he's a good coach. B may have forced some shots because he is option #1, option #2 and option #3 on this DH team. If the folks on Dixie Hwy think they have options other than BHat scoring, their not watching the same team I am.

On the other hand, I'd like to see this new 'passive' B when we play them in a few weeks. I recommend that he pass every possession and go the whole game without getting off a shot at SK.

Took a look at the stats listed on Cincinnati preps website - BHat has 248 official shot attempts in the 19 games listed. That is an average of 13 per game. Granted he gets to the free throw line a lot and those shooting fouls do not count against his shot attempts unless the field goal is good. Even if every free throw attempt was the result of a missed field goal attempt, that would still only add 5 shots per game to his total. I would think the real total is add 3.

 

Sixteen shots per game for a player the caliber of Brandon Hatton might be on the low side if I were coaching. It would all depend on how he was being defended.

 

With all the defensive attention the BH garners, the other players points should be available even if he takes 40% of the shots. Daria, Niehaus, Schreck, are good enough and have played enough ball to contribute as 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options (in no particular order).

I know for a fact that Brandon wasn't asked to take less shots last night. There were some turnovers early in the game so Hatton volunteered to run the point to try and get better shots for everybody. At that point, Scott Co started double and triple teaming him. Was just an all around bad shooting night for Dixie that led to the lopsided score.

 

End of story. I know Coach Chev personally and know that he would never ask a kid to shoot less. Dixie is simply going through some growing pains. Look at their schedule. Brutal. When it was put together, Fox was still a member of the team which would take a lot of pressure off of Hatton right now.

 

The decision to sit Hatton in the 4th had more to do with trying to get him healthy because of his ankle. Dixie actually outscored SC in the 4th playing 4 sophomores against 3 SC starters, who were still jacking up 3's with 2 mins left in the game.

Bolden averages around 12 or 13 shots per game for Holmes and is 53% FG, 40% from 3, and 80% FT.

 

BHatt might force things at times, but his shooting numbers are right where they should be, as far as attempts per game. I can almost guarantee that Coach Chev wishes Brandon would've taken a couple more shots last night.

Doesn't surprise me if parents are complaining, if they are. They were doing when he arrived there as a 7th grader and that is fact. Let's be real, Brandon is Dixie's only option. He has to get shots up if they have a remote chance of winning any game. Development in season is risky business when you're that young and inexperienced. Any team in the Top 10 could when the region on any given nite so let the chips fall where they may but I'd ride my horse til his tongue is dragging on the ground IMO.

Typical Dixie, always some your kids too good drama at Dixie, seems its at every sport. Ive said this before its a culture at Dixie, theres more drama than thursday night TV.

As far as I can tell this whole thing with BH is nothing. Folks in this thread have made a lot of assumptions, but that's about it. He sat the 4th in a game that was way out of hand to rest his ankle. Dixie had already lost one player to injury earlier in the game to a very physical SC team.

Its not an isolated incident that's the point, its a culture at Dixie, you would have thought that if it was just a few parents, that in time it would go away but it doesn't, it seems to add and grow every year, and its not just isolated to Football or Basketball parents. Soccer, band, wrestling, its everywhere at Dixie.

I say this whole thing is being blown WAY out of proportion.

Seems like Highlands had a similar situation back in the 80's with Scott Draud.
