The Dixie/Brandon Hatton Conundrum

Featured Replies

I'm not sure who you talked to but they have a bad memory.

Fortunately, the game is available online to review so I did.

Touches by qtr for Brandon followed by how many times he was doubled:

1. 12/4

2. 17/2

3. 9/2

So BH had the ball 30 times where he wasn't double-teamed(he was never triple-teamed as claimed) yet took only 9 shots.

I trust my source and will take their word over any stat.

My sources are as close to the situation as you can get.

To add to that, my source said they actually wish Brandon took more shots but wasn't forcing things this game, hence only 9 shots.

How do you refute the above number of touches with no double teaming? I'm not saying he was told not to shoot. I'm saying he wasn't trying to score for whatever reason that might have been.

YOU said he was constantly double and triple teamed. He wasn't.

No idea. They did have a guy open in the corner quite frequently but never capitalized.

So that gets back to my original original point. Do you take an butt-kicking trying to develop others? It wasn't working. There was no offense really being run after BH got rid of it. Often there was not even a clear shot attempted it a shot was attempted at all. Why change in mid-January?

My comments are simply to clear up that Brandon wasn't told to shoot less. That is fact and I have it from 2 people that are as close as you can get.

Now just because he wasn't doubled 30 feet from the basket doesn't mean he wasn't doubled in scoring situations.

Why he wasn't trying to score as much, I have no clue.

He wasn't doubled in scoring situations. Watch the film. He never even looked to shoot to GET into double-teamed situations.

It was essentially 4 on 4. Brandon stood 25 feet from the basket and the other 4 Dixie players stumbled and fumbled.

Scott County's defense had a lot to do with how many attempts he took in the game I saw. Just because you're not double teamed, doesn't mean you have a good shot available.

Brandon took 9 shots in 3 qtrs. If he would've played 4qtrs, let's say he gets 12-14 shots off because he usually takes over in the 4th. Really not that far off from his 17.5 avg attempts.

This thread has been blown way out of proportion.

Watch the game and then tell me something wasn't amiss.

For those that haven't watched the tape let's break down the possibilities. Remember, we have one poster who is obviously close to Brandon saying he was told not to shoot. We have another poster who talked to Chev and was told that's totally false.

So:

1. Poor communication: BH was told to get others involved and he misunderstood that. Question: Why did the staff let him stand around and do nothing most of the time?

2. BH was trying to make a point that he has to shoot a lot and be aggressive for DH to have a chance. Question: Why did the staff let him stand around and do nothing?

3. BH was right.

4. Poster was 100% lying. Why? How would BH benefit from such a tale?

No matter which one you believe to be true there are legit questions to be asked.

Maybe it's a one-game sitch. That would be best for Dixie.

We can chase our tail around and around about qty of shots etc. Players are going to have different qtys on any given night. Brandon had 9 attempts in this game and 29 attempts against Scott High. Dixie lost them both. The real question Dixie has to answer is how they get better as a team by tournament time and into next season. Covcath has figured out, Dixie has not.

I will agree with Solomon in the respect that Hatton cannot do it all so the other guys have to figure out their roles and get better as a Team or they will be an early exit much like last year.

Dixie's 4 Sophs and Daria (JR) outscored SC in the 4th with Hatton on the bench. SC had 3 starters and 2 guys from their main rotation in the game during that time. I don't think "other guys" are afraid, or unable to step up.

Watch the game and then tell me something wasn't amiss.

I'm of the opinion this was, "just one of those games", and chalk it up to that. For all we know the kid was having issues we don't know about (sick, slight injury, etc....),

Hell I found out a week after NewCath lost to CovCath by 2, that Michael Bueter was sick as a dog and the only reason he went to school that day was so he could play in that game, hence his 4 pt. outing.

Everything I've said is a fact as far as BH offering to play pg to cut down on turnovers. I could go in depth with my entire conversation but honestly it's nobody's business on here what I talk about with my source. I can promise you though that Brandon's lack of shots and play had nothing to do with anything Chevy or the coaching staff said to him.

If you want to go off a video, that's fine. But don't accuse me of lying about anything I said in here.

A. Video don't lie.

B. Don't get your panties in a wad. The "poster" I was referring to was the one I quoted to start the thread. And before he/she says I'm calling them a liar let me reiterate that I said there are only 4 possibilities for the way Hatton played and that is one of the 4.
