The Dixie/Brandon Hatton Conundrum

Featured Replies

I think Dixie is just going through a rough stretch. 3 of their last 5 losses have come from top 20 teams and the other 2 losses were @Scott and @Louisville Doss. Tough sledding.

Its not an isolated incident that's the point, its a culture at Dixie, you would have thought that if it was just a few parents, that in time it would go away but it doesn't, it seems to add and grow every year, and its not just isolated to Football or Basketball parents. Soccer, band, wrestling, its everywhere at Dixie.

It happens every year at every school regardless of class, size, status, etc. Dixie's latest issues, even though they're completely different, are more discussed due to the caliber of players involved.

Some of you really have no clue what you're talking about. End of story. I know the facts and this is indeed a non issue.

I know for a fact that Brandon wasn't asked to take less shots last night. There were some turnovers early in the game so Hatton volunteered to run the point to try and get better shots for everybody. At that point, Scott Co started double and triple teaming him. Was just an all around bad shooting night for Dixie that led to the lopsided score.

.

I'm not sure who you talked to but they have a bad memory.

Fortunately, the game is available online to review so I did.

Touches by qtr for Brandon followed by how many times he was doubled:

1. 12/4

2. 17/2

3. 9/2

So BH had the ball 30 times where he wasn't double-teamed(he was never triple-teamed as claimed) yet took only 9 shots.

A kid with his talent honestly should be shooting more than 15 a game. It's sad if parents of his teammates don't realize he is the man and the others should fill their roles.

Seems like you know everything!

The tape never lies. So you are telling me he had 38 total touches, doubled only 8 times and shot it only 9 times?

Something doesnt add up. Maybe their was miscommunication in the fact that Chevy May have addressed soñé forces and BH took it a little too personally and shut himself down. I dont know, kids are kids and its a daily struggle trying to get them to understand things without them overreacting or taking things too personally.

I cant imagine Chevy telling him to shoot less.

Scott County's defense had a lot to do with how many attempts he took in the game I saw. Just because you're not double teamed, doesn't mean you have a good shot available.

Brandon took 9 shots in 3 qtrs. If he would've played 4qtrs, let's say he gets 12-14 shots off because he usually takes over in the 4th. Really not that far off from his 17.5 avg attempts.

This thread has been blown way out of proportion.

His points per shot attempt make me think he should be shooting a lot more if they are right. Holy

I'd challenge anyone to watch the tape and tell me that was the Hatton you guys know. Solomon and I will COMPLETELY disagree that the D took his game away. Hatton was so passive.

If he brought the ball up the floor he passed it immediately near mid-court without even trying to go around the defender (90% of the time he was one-on-one). The defender was OK - not great. If he was on the wing he caught the ball 25 feet from the rim and never even tried to break his man down. He just held it up above his head looking to make a pass.

The tape does not support the contention that Scott's D had anything to do with it. The defender on him (#1) was no where near the problem that NCC's Seibert was.

Maybe this is on Brandon. No clue. But he wasn't the same kid we've seen over the last couple of years.

BTW if one guy is taking BH out of his game then it's imperative to do something to get him the ball in a scoring situation. I say the D didn't but if you believe it did then you have to ask what adjustments were made.

We'll disagree...no problem. What you're calling passive I see as running the offense. No idea what was going on with Brandon but it doesn't discredit the defensive pressure Scott County brought. Did he try to break down the defenders as much as usual...no. Would it have changed the outcome of the game..no. Again, no idea if Brandon didn't feel good, told to run the offense, whatever. I thought Scott County played good D regardless.

Now you raise my next question. What exactly was Dixie trying to do offensively with BH making passes from near mid-court?

Scott plays good D. No question. It's not good enough one-on-one to stop BH from getting to the rim and getting shots off of picks and pull-ups.

No idea. They did have a guy open in the corner quite frequently but never capitalized.
