Coaches have banned college programs from their school before, Spurrier is not welcome at Tucker High School.

Coaches just want to do what they feel is best for their kids...

But to me, WHO is this High School coach think he is, keeping his student athletes from prospective programs>??? He does not own them, I think he should have kept his mouth shut. What you do is tell your kids how he treated you before and let them decide.

Off of the top of my head there aren't any...

Not a good idea for UC to make enemies north of Columbus where OSUs stronghold is. While Massillon is one of the most storied programs in OH, this isnt hurting UC that much, most of their top players would end up OSU or another B10 school more than likely. There is second tier talent at Mass but I'd be more concerned if local schools like Winton Woods banned UC.

I would think any real good ones get to OH State.

The first thing I see in the article that sticks out like a sore thumb, is there is no mention of Tubberville or his coaches responding? The article is just one side! Where is the reporter? Shouldn't a real reporter get the other side of the story? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in football there is no early signing period?

 

I recall GT mentioning that as soon as the coaches got here they called these recruits. Plus as have been said, when a new staff comes in, if you are not signed, your on your own. Happens all the time, heck, Cal did it at UK! If the coach thinks he can win with these guys he will sign them, if not he will look elsewhere, as he is getting paid to do HIS job, not that of the previous coach.

Coaches are not allowed to discuss recruits publicly before signing day so they would be very limited in what they could say, if anything. They would not be able to comment on the specifics of any of these situations.

And I would guess that, historically, Ohio north of I-70 probably hasn't been the most fertile recruiting ground for UC either, which leads me to mark this down in the "unfortunate, but not a big deal in the grand scheme" column. Can't miss what you never had -- kind of like those UK fans wondering about how this incident will "help" UK football.

 

Also, as a "legendary" high school football program, it seems highly likely that the Massilon Tigers' coach probably has an overly inflated sense of how big he really is in the grand scheme of things.

This happens ALL THE TIME when there is a college coaching change. I remember when Dantonio came to UC how he met with all the early verbal committed kids and decided to pull the offer from some. This really upset some kids (rightfully so IMO). Calipari pushed some of his players out the door to make room for his recruits. It is not necessarily right but it is how college athletics are run. Keep in mind that it is a two way street, the kids can de-commit too when there is a coaching change. Supposedly, in the Tuberville deal here, from the UC point of view, the kid said he was opening up his options due to the coaching change so UC said they were going to look at other QB's again (not wait for him to get back with them) and then signed another QB.

 

I agree that the high school coach should not block other players from potential opportunities with ANY school just because he does not like how this was handled.

The entire Paper Tiger program has an inflated sense of how big they are! Since Ohio went to an actual playoff system in 1972, they haven't won a state title. ALL of their titles were by votes, before 1972, hense the name Paper Tigers.

It's happening here, too. I guess Walt Wells called Connor Rafferty, an O-lineman at Robinson High committed to USF, and told him to look elsewhere, that he was no longer a front-line priority. Though USF did not pull their offer, it was evidently made clear that Rafferty's opportunity to play would be limited.

 

Connor is visiting EKU this weekend and has an existing offer from Samford. I understand he is lining up other visits.
