Again, your claiming he was able to score on the smaller Schult, but there wasn't a mismatch? :confused:Did they double Drew in the paint? Who on CCH was able to guard him? How many of those possessions did he get fouled, because that is almost as good as a lay up with him at the free throw line?

 

Clyde I just don't understand your back and forthness (if that's even a word). First, you say height doesn't play a factor in guarding the post, then you go on to say he scored on the SMALLER Schult alluding to why Drew was able to score. Then u discredit size such as weight doesn't matter in guarding the post. It was clear that no one on CCH could handle him he nearly had half their points and was in foul trouble in the first half. He scored around 75% of their points in the second half....

 

I would love to hear your take on where Drew ranks on the list of top big men in the 9th region.

 

I respect the fact you went back and watched the game and charted shots however, please find me someone better than him whether its in the post, back to the basket or face up in the post outside of Campbell. Your comments in previous posts about how he is limited and has raw post moves....do you stand corrected? If not, well then it seems to me your being awfully critical of a top player.

 

Drew can certainly shoot the ball he has a solid midrange game and excellent free throw shooter. He showed his ability to hit midrange jumpers and threes on the AAU circuit this summer. I believe his reluctant to shoot them at NCC because there are other players that take majority of midrange jumpers and threes. It seems to me they believe he is most effective on the block and they focus on getting him the ball down there. As he gets older I believe he will begin to extend his range outside of just the paint at NCC.

 

I'm going to type slowly to see if that helps.

 

YOU made the claim yesterday that the two bigs would be a mismatch problem for Bo and Zack. They were not unless you have a unique definition of the word. I referenced Schult so that you would see that one of the 6 baskets he scored in the lane was not against the two YOU referenced yesterday. So there is no back and forth.

 

Secondly, you HAVE to be related to Drew because you have a real "mama bear" feel to your posts. I'm on record as saying I'm a fan of Drew. Drew did get some doubles. No question. No surprise either. I would. He also got some fouls. It changes nothing as to my ORIGINAL point last week. He needs work on his post game. T and this game show it. Don't get me wrong. He's solid. He can just be a lot better with work.

 

Thirdly, you keep insisting on me saying where Drew ranks. That shows that you're a)ignoring my original point and b)probably related. To answer your question and assuming we mean only looking at offense I've got Campbell, Englemon, and then maybe Drew.

As good and strong as Beuter was last year in Park Hills was as bad as he was last night.

Showtime, if you're truly interested in helping Drew get better vs just worried about where he ranks in NKY tell him to watch Kevin McHale low post moves until his eyes bleed, then without a ball practice the up-and-under move footwork , and then take it to the court with a ball. It would elevate his game tremendously.

4 juniors on JV? Wow, that is surprising to me. Do other schools operate in the same way? 'Back in the day', juniors were cut before they were put on JV. Do they get a lot of playing time?

You are forgetting NCC is a small school, as most people do. Total enrollment under 400 and co-ed, so they just don't have that many kids, so some juniors have to play.

I just got a text that said he is out a month with a bad sprain, that's not good. :irked:

 

Wish him well from all of us at CovCath, as no one likes to see a kid get hurt in a game.

 

My concern for the young man in missing a month, is more than just the ankle but the lack of physical activity, as there isn't a ton you can do, with a bad ankle sprain!

 

BTW, it looked like to me the young man was already wearing some sort of brace on the ankle was he?

I ran into a good friend of mine at my daughters game tonight who has very strong ties to NewCath basketball. He started talking about this game and his comments were M Its the old NewCath basketball way allways go to guard play when things get close even when the guards are not producing. With so many kids that kid its flatout a joke what they do with the ball" Took the words right out of my mouth. Breds get outcoached and lose. Nothing new about that.

Why is when a team loses it is the coach or refs, in this case the coach. I was there and Brannen did not get outcoached. They had 10 seconds to go the length of the floor and CCH played good defense and caused a turnover. Brannen is one of the best coaches in the 9th Region.

I said "maybe Drew" because I was considering Lou. Lou has a better post game but Drew is overall more effective offensively.

I don't get to see many basketball games so I am hardly an expert but I was very impressed with McDonald. And I also agree with Clyde on his ability to improve to become an even better player. Sky is the limit for this talented young man.
