2 of these points go to Seibert, he hit 2 free throws just before the ankle injury.

.

Both your scorekeeper and Mr. K saw and approved of the stats after the game, so not sure what went wrong. :idunno:

LB is correct. Seibert got fouled when NC was up 29-26. Hit 2 FTs.

So Clyde I must know, McDonald's performance tonight...Was that because there wasn't a mismatch or because he is very limited in the post? :ohbrother:

If you get the time, check out the CCH radio....Mark and Rich seemed to think McDonald was a load down low and no one could stop him for CCH. If I remeber one comment correctly Rich said, "Not sure why NCC didn't keep feeding McDonald in the post the entire second half, he was near instoppable when they got the ball to him."

I get the history/rivalry side of it, but I don't see CCH on the same talent level as NCC. That is why I was with RP thinking this was a big win for CCH. I am going to have to get out and see CCH again because I am obviously missing something.

NCC starting 5 is the best starting 5 in the region 1-5. They do have more overall talent then CCH in those areas however, their bench is miserable. The guard play in this game when Seibert went down and Pangallo cramped up was awful. Too many turnovers. Ultimately, turnoves haunted the Breds down the stretch. I was honestly surprised by the lack of execution down the stretch for both teams. The ending was quite uncharateristic with Schult for 3 and Pauly turnover on in bounds pass the gave NCC the opportunity to tie. Difference was Ruthsatz at the end of the game with an assist to Tobler, And-1, and a steal to seal it.

CCH has much better role players that play their roles extremely well. Lots of intangibles, do the small things, glue type guys. For example, Pauly, Wichman, Tobler.

IMO, Last night the only match up in CCH's favor was Ruthsatz, but I am not discounting Pangallo (he's going to be a great one) it's just Ruthsatz has the experience on him right now. Ruthsatz experience was evident in the Colonels come from behind win down the stretch.

I don't know if I would go that far. The bench does lack in the scoring dept. and I can't figure out why. Dupont has a great looking shot, but NEVER pulls the trigger. They have more than capable personnel.

How many NCC players were juniors on the JV team?

4 juniors on JV? Wow, that is surprising to me. Do other schools operate in the same way? 'Back in the day', juniors were cut before they were put on JV. Do they get a lot of playing time?

Fair questions so I went back and watched the entire game charting Drew's touches.

In general , as Mark and Rich said, he is a load in the post. I've never said differently.

Drew had 14 touches in the game where he didn't shoot the ball or when he was charged with a player control foul.

Drew took 6 shots when he caught the ball in the post with his back to the basket. He made 2 so 33%. That's my only criticism of his game. He doesn't score enough out of the low block. As I said earlier in this thread he did show a really good move back to his left on his first touch in the 2nd half. Why? He gave himself some space. He didn't catch it so low in the block that it limited his room to score. Great move.

He needs a left hand to be more effective in the post. If he can develop that it will then cause the D to play him straight up vs shading him so that he can't spin with his left shoulder to the baseline (favorite move). By the way, one of those 2 was against a shorter Mark Schult.

Where I've always felt Drew was best and which I've stated numerous times is when he gets the ball in space in anywhere near the lane. It gives him room to move and it gives him options. His handle is good enough to take two hard dribbles and go to the rim or pull up. He was 4/9 in those cases.

I've also said he's excellent at the FT line. He was 7/8 (all 2nd half). That makes me think that if he works on his game more he can be an effective jump shot shooter from 15 to 17. I haven't seen that. His stroke is too good not to try that.

As I stated yesterday there was no mismatch in the post.

Drew is a strong player. He can be REALLY strong and have a chance to play college ball if he works on his game.

There also was not match up advantage for Ruthsatz over Pangallo. Pangallo was the better player last night. Pangallo was 6/11. Nick R was 3/12.

I'm speaking in terms of on paper, such as a scouting report or comparison of the two guards overall, not this specific game only. Pangallo other than McDonald was the best player on the floor last night.

Also, this has been a very critical point of ruthsatz's game. He tends to force way too much as shown by his poor shooting performance. I first notcied this last year in the districts. He had poor shooting performances against Holmes and HC but it didn't stop him from hoisting them up there.

Pangallo was the most efficient scoring. Kid needs to be a bigger part of the offense.

I agree, at times he does force things and try to create too much, however, he was the difference down the stretch in the game last night. I would rather my best player on the team force the issue with the game on the line then pass it off.

Just my opinion.

He excelled in the 4th qtr. 1/1 from the field and 5/5 from the line.

Again, your claiming he was able to score on the smaller Schult, but there wasn't a mismatch? :confused:Did they double Drew in the paint? Who on CCH was able to guard him? How many of those possessions did he get fouled, because that is almost as good as a lay up with him at the free throw line?

Clyde I just don't understand your back and forthness (if that's even a word). First, you say height doesn't play a factor in guarding the post, then you go on to say he scored on the SMALLER Schult alluding to why Drew was able to score. Then u discredit size such as weight doesn't matter in guarding the post. It was clear that no one on CCH could handle him he nearly had half their points and was in foul trouble in the first half. He scored around 75% of their points in the second half....

I would love to hear your take on where Drew ranks on the list of top big men in the 9th region.

I respect the fact you went back and watched the game and charted shots however, please find me someone better than him whether its in the post, back to the basket or face up in the post outside of Campbell. Your comments in previous posts about how he is limited and has raw post moves....do you stand corrected? If not, well then it seems to me your being awfully critical of a top player.

Drew can certainly shoot the ball he has a solid midrange game and excellent free throw shooter. He showed his ability to hit midrange jumpers and threes on the AAU circuit this summer. I believe his reluctant to shoot them at NCC because there are other players that take majority of midrange jumpers and threes. It seems to me they believe he is most effective on the block and they focus on getting him the ball down there. As he gets older I believe he will begin to extend his range outside of just the paint at NCC.
