5A Championship - Bowling Green 34 Cooper 20

Featured Replies

BG should be loaded next year, but, not sure about any new opponents, but, I'm sure they'll still play St X, Henderson Co, W.Central and Lex Cath, so, they'll have some tough games.. It wouldn't surprise me if they did bulk up the schedule some next year, because I know they're expecting great things with that team..

You got any idea what BG's schedule looks like for the next two years? They return most everyone from this team and should have a good shot at going unbeaten and running it to 45 straight wins next year as long as they don't play any out of state powerhouses. That would mean in 2014 they would need to win their first 6 to break Trinity's 50 game state record win streak.

This is the 2013 schedule. The 2014 version would be a reasonable reverse.

8/24 - Lexington Catholic (at WKU)

8/31 - Bryan Station (at Lexington Catholic)

9/6 - at St. X

9/13 - Owensboro

9/20 - at McCallie (TN) (Chatanooga)

9/27 - Barren County

10/4 - at Logan County

10/18 - Warren Central

10/25 - at Greenwood

11/1 - Blackman (TN) (Murfreesboro)

McCallie went 5-6 last year and were eliminated in the second round of the playoffs. Blackman went 8-4 and were likewise eliminated in the second round of the playoffs, but they also beat Brentwood towards the end of the year.

Bowling Green most definitely has a team that I expect to go undefeated next year. That's not to say they can't lose, but they scare me like last year's team scared me. The following year will be interesting. I don't know a great deal about their current freshman and sophomore classes beyond how they've done in the freshman and JV levels, and they've done exceptionally well in both (like always). I would think their primary worries that year as far as the first six games would be playing Lexington Catholic (I assume) and St. X.

I'm pretty sure they were already not going to be playing next year, but I do know that no one was very happy with the way Henderson County handled their game this year which was called midway through the second quarter.

Congrats Jag's on a great year. You made every Jag fan proud with the heart you played with the entire year. You may have made a few mistakes in this game but you proved you belonged on that field with one of the best.

Congrats to Bowling Green!!

A very good fan turnout for Cooper as well.

Congrats to Cooper, Coach Borchers, and staff on a great season. You all played one heck of a game tonight and was right there with them the whole game.

BG not the machine they were hyped to be, obviously. Congrats to Cooper on a great season!

Who hyped them to be more than the best team in 5A? They replaced 18 STARTERS and won all 15 games on the schedule this year. Some of you people are ridiculous.

Congrats to BG on the class 5A State Title! Also congrats go out to the Jags! Great run and no reason to hang your heads what-so-ever.

#1 was pretty much all I was really impressed with from BG. Good football team fundamentally minus the encroachment penalties.

Amen to that, Pride!!!! Add to that the fact that the Purples lost 31 seniors from last year, only had ten seniors this year, and only one returning starter on defense! Oh, and by the way, the Purples were the only team in KY with a perfect slate in 2012. Cooper had a great season to be sure, and Coach Borchers deserves many accolades on his accomplishment of turning this team into a title contender in just five years. But how many programs can survive near catastrophic losses from the previous season and win another title?

I was there, and I congratulated my share of Cooper fans on their team's effort both on the season and in the game. They very much appreciated my and Mrs PH's sportsmanship and recognition of their team. They earned it. Conversely, we in Purple Nation are proud of our team's accomplishments this season as well, and we thank the folks who recognize that the Purples earned that second title in a row despite starting the season with little real game experience and few seniors.

Way to go, guys and staff!! I'm twistin' all night!!

Congrats to both teams. I honestly felt bad for Cooper three seasons ago, they were really bad, but that's expected for a young team. To come so far in such a short time frame is remarkable.

Can't wait until 2013...this team's going to be scary good!!

All but one skill player who played tonight will be back!

:D

Congrats Purples! Another feather in that cap. Was great seeing Purple Haze. Mr & Mrs!

Hey 'Pick!

It was great to finally get to meet you after all this time knowing you through here, and Mrs PH enjoyed meeting you as well! Excellent to see Westie as well! Hopefully it won't be so long before we can hook up again!

Another great turnout for Cooper. The Cooper vs BG game had the highest attendance for all the title games. I know BG is right there and had no travel which made it easy to get fans there and all but Cooper had a pretty darn good showing also.
