So why don't you apply at KHSAA or volunteer or whatever it is they do and go fix it?

They used 2 year average enrollment numbers from the 2008/2009 and the 2009/2010 school years. The current seniors that just finished their football seasons were freshman during the 2009/2010 school year. This means the enrollment numbers used for the classification are outdated because zero kids that will play football in the 2013 and 2014 seasons were actually counted in the enrollment numbers used during the most recent re-classification.

 

So for example, 3A Bourbon County currently has 439 boys and 4A Lexington Catholic currently has 402 boys. Based upon actual current enrollment, Bourbon County should be a middle of the pack 4A school. Instead, they will compete in 3A. New enrollment numbers are available. Why not make the class system current?

I think you are mistaken. I'm almost certain of it. This is at least the second time we've gone 4 years between re-classification.

And to amplify on those comments, if the KHSAA felt there was a compelling reason to re-classify every 2 years, it would do so. Maybe it will do so in the future. But we went with the 4 year cycle when we went with 6 classes because we wanted to make sure enough time was given before we started changes classes and districts. We are now in our second 4 year cycle. Based on Julian's participation numbers, the 6 classes is a success to me. Because the only way I can justify the expenditure of tax payer dollars on high school athetics is the belief that kids are learning important values and life lessons through participation.

 

And let me be very clear here: during my two terms on the BOC, I never experienced one member of the staff or one BOC member that I thought came even close to being lazy. The BOC position is unpaid and I "invested" 100s of hours each year to high school athletics. The staff busted their butts to make high school athletics as meaningful and positive for the kids participating. Unless something has changed in the one and a half years since I left, the staff members were considerably underpaid when compared to other high school athletic associations and overworked on top of it. I don't even come close to associating the words "being lazy" with the KHSAA.

Of course you do not care. Caring about stuff is all relative. If Bowling Green was in 4A and was really supposed to be in 5A, you would care because Bowling Green would continue to lose title games to Highlands.

I agree with you on this. Julian has done great things for football in this state and puts in a ton of work, as does the BOC. It is great that more kids are participating in football. As stated above, my only issue is that if we are going to have 6 classes, let's get it right. The original idea of 6 classes was sold to the schools as after 2 years, we will look at this and make changes. When the KHSAA saw the nightmare of how many teams needed to be moved classification and re-districted, they came up with a arbitrary enrollment change percentage number that would allow for minimal changes in classification.

 

We will just have to agree to disagree on the timetable of reclassification. I actually really like when 1 of the team keeps winning titles.
