Wow Coach Barth leads Walton to its best record ever and first regional playoff and does not win coach of the year for the district. What a joke.

I don't know whether this applies to any of the schools in question, but I know you actually have to pay to be a member of the KFCA in order to be eligible for its award. This is the problem in a lot of other sports, too. If you don't pay to be a member, you aren't eligible for the awards.

 

I can tell you The Courier-Journal has considered not even running these awards because they're not all-inclusive. But we decided it would be a disservice to those who win not to acknowledge them.

 

It's the same reason we don't run the state statistical leaders provided by the KHSAA. Too many teams simply don't report their stats, and the ones that are released aren't anywhere close to accurate.

 

Good info to know... I'd suggest running that with the printed list because I'm sure 95% of the readers do not know that.

Ram and PaPa, I have to agree on a coach that goes winless in their District and only scores 7 against district opponents is hard to justify. If that Coach had any sense of integrity, he should decline the award.

Folks I think these awards are voted on by coaches in the district. You can't vote for yourself. So if you are in a 4 team district the coach that deserves the award can't vote for himself? So his vote for someone else could be the deciding vote!

No argument from me in 6A Dist. 6. Tyler is a fantastic football player. I'm sure my now banned friend could argue for Marksberry over Brossart, especially with the improvement over last year. DH didn't make the overall leap that SK did this year (overall record, playoff run, etc.)

I called Coach Lampley this past summer to try and get on the schedule, but he said their non-district sched was full. We do play all the othwr teams in that district though.

If that is how the voting works then I not only think they are a sham but also lost a ton of respect for the other coaches in Coopers district who didn't vote for Borchers because they have shown how idiotic they are.

then there shouldn't be the awards in the first place if they are going to be misleading. Or change the name of the awards to "Coach who paid team dues to this organization and got the most votes by other coaches who paid their fees"

 

Dont call them Coach of theYear in their district when clearly that isn't the case. It's a sham and may be the most worthless award ever in the state.

 

Whats funny is when some say it isn't a give everyone a trophy type thing, yet looking at the winners, it does feel like an everyone gets a trophy type of league when the worst coaches in some districts win this award. It is a joke and if I were one of the coaches that paid their fees to this joke of an organization I wouldn't pay another dime to them from here on out.

The awards are great and for some of the kids and coaches, it is the only recognition they will get. (No, the point of the game is not to get recognition but it is still a good thing.) Jimmie Reed is the Executive Director of the Ky Football Coaches Association and has done much to promote HS football in the state of Kentucky. He is also a big fan of Ky HS football players and coaches.

 

I've never thought of it as the best coach in the district is elected. I think of it more like which coach's team exceeded expectations or did the most with what they had, or which coach's team won the district. It is not a perfect system but I like it that coaches don't vote for themselves.

 

Our association also awards undefeated regular seasons and milestones for coaches like 100 wins, 150, etc.

 

Generally the people on this forum are big time supporters of KY HS Football. While it may not be perfect, there is a lot of effort put into this award system to promote our sport in our state! I've been around HS football in our state my entire lifetime, going back to the days my dad coached at Boyle & Mercer. This state has produced some very good players & coaches the past 40 years- some of them have certainly been overlooked. I appreciate Coach Reed and our association for trying to change that.

 

I respect the opinion of others and their right to share it. I like this forum because I get the chance to do the same. I've spent 25 years teaching Voltaire, Locke, etc. Good stuff! :thumb:
