I don't expect a lopsided win, period.. For some reason, Mfds offense has been sputtering lately.. They aren't that finely oiled machine we saw earlier in the year.. They still have a balanced offense and several receivers that can hurt you, but, recently, they've had to rely more heavily on Jackson to carry the load and KCD did a very good job of containing him last week and I expect Bwood to have a better D than KCD had.. I think BWood will make a couple of big plays on us and score 2-3 times, but, I don't think they can just line up and beat us on every series, as we'll win our fair share.. If Mayfield does struggle, I still expect them to be able to put 2-3 drives together and then also make a big play somewhere.. Morris and staff have been excellent making halftime adjustments and controlling games in the 2nd half and I think they'll do the same here.. I expect BWood to score a couple of 1st half TDs and Mayfield to answer with 2 of there own, making it 14-14 at half.. I think Mayfield comes out and controls the 3rd qtr and scores 2 times to 0 or BWood, going up 28-14 at the end of 3.. I expect Mayfield to tack on a 3rd 2nd half score in the early 4th, taking a 35-14 lead.. At that point, BWood gets into a hurry up and has to go the air more than they wanted, but, it pays off as they answer the Cards score with a quick strike of there own cutting the lead to 35-21.. There defense steps up on there next series and forces a long fg attempt that sails wide, however, the Cardinal drive did eat 4-5 minutes off the clock.. BWood strikes again with under 2:00 to go to cut the lead to 35-28, but, an onside kick fails and the Cards are able to pick up 1 1st down and then run the clock out.. Final 35-28 Cards..

This is a pretty ignorant statement. First, he wouldnt' be where he is without allowing to develop gradually amongst kids his own age. He simply wasn't ready for Varsity in August. Second, if he was moved up earlier, there's a pretty good chance he would not have made any difference, he likely would have been beaten down discouraged early on and had his confidence broken. That would have had multi-season repercussions and wasn't worth the Risk. The truth is we will never know what might have been. What we do know for sure at this point is tha, no matter how this ends, he has had a great experience this year that carry him forward into his long career. He was a part of what one of the greatest freshmen teams in BW history. He folow that up by stepping up and having a significant impact in 3 post season varsity games. It doesn't get any better than that. So don't question it and interject your "What If" and "Too Bad" scenarios.

 

Do you just think you are that much smarter than the coaches? Do you can see something they didn't? They not only had the chance to move him up in August and chose not to, but also when they lost Lane early in the season and chose to use Suchanek and Nussbaum. We will never know why, but I'm certain they evaluated and made what they feel is the right decision.

It would have been nice to see the frosh QB moved up earlier. As VOR too said they would have wondered what he could have done VS NCC. Myself I would wonder what he may have done in earlier games. THAT'S IT! I don't think you will see in my post that I said the frost QB should have been moved up. But as VOR stated he has been good so far in his career. I hope I'm wrong on my prediction, but until Bw beats MF I'm going with MF.

As far as your last paragraph, many people on here mentioned bow the coach kept the frosh together from a few years ago Vs playing other players, ill go back and check if you scolded them as well for questioning the coaching. But again, it was their opinion, which they are entitled to. I have no beef either way, Rash is a good coach just like the other head coaches Bw has had.

Well heck, if VOR agrees with you, then my OPINION doesn't matter. While I have a great deal of respect for VOR, I don't take everything he says as gospel or agree with everyhting he agrees with. So I really don't care whether or not he agrees with you. I also didn't see where he actually did agreed with you. He was talking about NewCath which was one game earlier. When did you want him moved up? Maybe I misread it do to the improper use of a comma. One game earlier, two games?, mid-season?

 

You will notice that I didn't disagree with yours and Toothpick's assessments.

Beechwood wins this by double digits. Beechwood was much better last year and squandered too many opportunity's. Just plain choked (on and off the field). I do not think that will happen again. I was impressed with BW defense last week against Frankfort. FF had 3 very good athletes that were essentially shut down when it really mattered. Beechwood has been their own worst enemy all year and are peaking at the right time. Low scoring for these two. BW 35 May 20.

Great post, two great teams doing battle last year, IMO it will live up to the same billing this year....my only hope is that the outcome is different.

Nussbaum scores 5 TDs for Beechwood

FORT MITCHELL, Ky. – Max Nussbaum carried the ball 36 times and scored five touchdowns to help launch Beechwood to the Class 1A regional title, as the Tigers defeated Frankfort, 35-13, on Friday night.

 

Nussbaum rushed for 157 yards and four scores, caught two passes for 81 yards and another touchdown and grabbed an interception on defense to help advance the Tigers to the state final four.

 

"Max got things going for us early on, then the offensive line started getting cranked up," said Beechwood coach Noel Rash. "Our coaching staff did a tremendous job, figuring out where the pieces belong and who we should be getting into. That combination, with Max Nussbaum, is a deadly force for us."

 

The Tigers set the tone early, methodically taking the ball down the field 54 yards on nine plays on their first possession, capped by a 1-yard Nussbaum end zone plunge.

 

"That's what we've been doing forever, just going with power and running over people" said the senior, fresh off collecting the Tigers' title trophy.

 

As sure and steady as Beechwood was, Frankfort appeared rattled from the get-go. The Panthers' much-hyped offense moved the ball to the Beechwood 16 yard line on their first possession, thanks in large part to a pass interference call on the Tigers, before a high snap sailed over quarterback Chris Hawkins' head.

 

Running back Teantre McGee recovered the ball, but unwisely kept trying to turn nothing into something before finally being brought down for a 36-yard loss. Frankfort was forced to punt from midfield two plays later.

 

McGee fumbled on Frankfort's 24 yard line on the Panthers' next possession as well, setting up Nussbaum's second running score of the night, then Nussbaum intercepted a Hawkins pass on the Panthers' next play from scrimmage midway through the second quarter.

 

The Tigers staked a commanding lead on their next possession when Kyle Fieger found Nussbaum down the left sideline for a 59-yard scoring strike with 3:54 left before the half.

 

Frankfort finally showed some life before the break when receiver Aaron Jackson, who came into the game with 17 touchdowns this season, took a short pass from Hawkins and weaved his way to the end zone from 48 yards out at the 1:14 mark.

 

The second half could be summed up in four words: Nussbaum up the middle.

 

With the Tigers in control, the senior ran the ball 18 times between the tackles — on all but six of Beechwood's plays — adding two more touchdown drives to his tally before Frankfort added a late TD pass to Jackson as time waned.

 

Beechwood finished with only a 303-to-241 offensive yard advantage, but forced three Panther turnovers. The Tigers also held the Hawkins-Jackson connection, which paired for more than 1,400 yards and 17 touchdowns this season, to lackluster totals.

 

"We just put five guys in the box and took away their passing game," said Nussbaum.

 

Hawkins completed just 15 of 31 passing attempts for 153 yards — 48 of which came on Jackson's elusive scoring scamper before the half. Jackson ended the night with only five catches for 100 yards.

 

"Any time you put five guys in the box like we did, you've gotta run. But when you've got guys (on defense) like Nussbaum and Justice, McKown and Taylor Overstreet... those guys were special tonight," said Rash. "We forced them to throw into a bunch of defenders."

 

With the win, Beechwood advances to face its playoff nemesis Mayfield (12-1) next week. The Cardinals have eliminated Beechwood in five of the last six years. In his post game speech, Rash pointed to this year's highly anticipated tilt.

 

"Enjoy tonight, but we've got to come in and get right back to work in the morning. You earned this," he told his team, before signaling the Cardinals' reign is coming to an end. "This is your time! Earn it!"
