Maxpreps has this as #1 vs #2 in 1A with Mayfield a 12 point favorite. I will be surprised if it isn't closer than that. It should be a really good game. Bring the winter coat as the temperature is going to drop fast tonight and tomorrow. Rain in the morning but it will be gone by game time. Windy and cold with temperature in the 30's during the game. Safe travels to all those from Mayfield.

Toothpick, Mayfield fan and all the rest take your time and have a nice and safe trip to NKY and good luck to both teams. This is going to be another classic to 1A football in the state of Kentucky. Like VOR said be sure to bring warm clothing as a big shift in weather from a great week in the mid 60's. JD

Mayfield and Beechwood will

meet for the fourth consecutive

year in the Class A semifinals, but

both coaches insist they’re not

tired of seeing each other.

“It sure beats sitting at home,”

jokes Mayfield coach Joe Morris,

whose football team is gunning

for its fourth consecutive appearance

in the state championship

game. “It’s two great programs

playing each other. That’s what

the playoffs are supposed to be.”

The rivalry reeks of respect, although

it’s been completely onesided.

“I love playing them,” Beechwood’s

Noel Rash said. “I don’t

like losing to them.”

 

Respect.....That is what I love about our games against Beechwood. Both programs have it for each other and it shows on the field.

I have seen more than 3 games of Mayfield film and unlike last week, I can not predict the outcome. Both teams are talented, disciplined, great coaching and have a great two way star. We won't know who has the upper hand till they line up and go at it. It is going to be won the way every Mayfield vs. Beechwood game is won - at the line of scrimmage. People talk about speed but Mayfield has never had a speed advantage on Beechwood and they won't tonight. Watch the line of scrimmage and you will see where this game is won and lost. I hope both teams stay healthy and we see who the best team is.

Good luck tonight yourself, but, I will take issue with 1 thing and thats the speed advantage.. Mayfield has clearly owned the speed advantage the last 3 years, clearly.. The lines last year pretty much neutralized each other last year, but, I think BWoods line play was a bit better..The 2 years prior to last, I think Mayfields line play clearly won the battle of the trenches..

Your own post proves my point. The line play has been the big difference, not speed. The only time where I ever felt speed was a factor in these games was Beechwood had trouble with Xavier Shelton's speed on the outside in the 38-0 game, but that game was 38-0 because Mayfield's line controlled the game. As a whole, both teams have plenty of speed to hang with each other and make plays. We'll have to agree to disagree on the speed.
