Center / Qb exchange isssues are typically not because of the center high snapping. Was this CovCaths starting center or was this a 2nd string kid replacing #1?

 

I ask this because 12 games into a season and bad exchanges dont happen on their own, 99.9% of the time they happen because the center is thinking about a new blocking assignment or he had been getting beat all nite to a spot and basically he just starts reaching and making a move before he gets through his motion of snapping the ball.

 

I believe what happened in the case of the bad snap is CovCath coaches chewed the center at halftime and told him him that he had better not get beat on a particular play again and guess what.

 

The bread and butter play was called, the center reached and the rest is history. I give all of the credit for this fumble to Weinrich and the play of the Highlands defense. Period, end of sentence. JMHO.

 

BTW, if anyone noticed, Highlands had alot of issues with high snaps last nite as well, but McCoy being the great athlete he is was able to re-adjust each time and make plays. I am willing to say that the CovCath defense caused the Highlands high snaps as well as they proved it with some great stops.

From where we were, the whole place appeared to be packed to the gills. There seemed to be a thick ring of people all the way around. And when they start stacking up two and three deep behind me, I know it's a big crowd. That's the most jammed our area has been since I don't know when.

Well, the days are getting shorter, the leaves are falling, the deer are mating, and Highlands is winning.

 

Yep, the laws of nature are all holding up in full force.

One big difference though in regards to being able to adjust. McCoy wasn't handing it off to anyone.

So lets look at when the Birds scored.

 

First score was on a long drive by HHS 11 plays covering 66 yards. Great drive by HHS

 

Second score was after CovCath failed to move the ball a yard and a half twice, 8 plays and 71 yards later TD HHS. Another great drive by HHS but more importantly a outstanding "D" effort by HHS.

 

Third score was after the Bir to Bir fumble and considering that it was indeed the 1st play to start the 3rd quarter, it was a death blow to CovCath and indeed it was a gift to HHS, as HHS only had to cover 25 yards to take the game from a close 7 point lead with CovCath having the ball, to a 14 point lead.

 

My point is after the HHS third "TD", CovCath marches down and scores to bring it back to a 7 point lead but without that fumble (and remember the HHS "D" had nothing to do with it) it's now a tie score and it's a completely different ball game.

 

Being behind HHS at HHS by 14 is a tough task to overcome, it requires you to not only score to bring it back to a seven point lead but then to stop HHS and to score again just to tie.

 

I would have liked the CovCath odds, if indeed they had marched down the field after the start of the 3rd quarter to tie the game and in doing so would have given CovCath a huge lift, instead of the fumble and giving HHS a huge mental lift!

 

If you don't think that 3rd TD was a gift for HHS and a death blow to CovCath, that the HHS "D" had nothing to do with, then well I guess we just will have to agree to disagree.

 

CovCath committed far too many TO's, some cause by HHS and some either by poor decisions or just sloppy play, while HHS took care of the ball.

 

HHS wins CovCath losses!

I do think it's a little alarming that Highlands only put up 28 with Cov. Cath turning the ball over 4 times. I am tending to agree that Highlands dodged a bullet friday.

TOG isn't as far off as some make him out to be.

 

He is 100% correct that the unforced fumble in the 3rd qtr was a tough one to overcome against a strong team.

 

CCH D played pretty well. Much better at stopping the run but they gave up a big play or 2 in the air on balls that were begging to be picked or knocked down.

 

HHS is the better team as they've shown twice this year. It doesn't really matter how close CCH is/was.

I wasn't there for the game and I didn't get a chance to listen on the Radio... At the end, did Highlands go conservative on offense?

No. Their game plane was to run and run mainly with McCoy.

While I am not alarmed, this is different from recent HHS teams. In the past, 4 turnovers from CCH would have turned into a freight train running downhill and a high 40's or low 50's point total.

 

The reality is that HHS was never required to put the right foot back on the pedal on the right and they didn't. Whether conservative play calling & personnel packages or poor execution or solid defense (probably some of all 3), they gave a workmanlike effort and moved on. That is what they are supposed to do.

 

Depending on what LexCath defense will give them, they have shown they can line up 2 TEs and a jumbo package and run downhill OR spread the field and sling it around all over the place. I would not want to be the LexCath defensive coordinator putting together a game plan this week.

I'm sure this was the game an and why so low scoring. I'm sure they felt they could control the game and the only thing that would have allowed CC to stay in it was turnovers. Once they were ahead, I'm guessing it was more about not making mistakes or poor decisions. They really only passed when they had to or would throw deep occasionally.

 

If they would have gotten behind or needed to for whatever reason, they would have opened it up.

 

Not trying to sound like a cocky HHS, but I believe Dale felt he had it one as long as they didn't do something stupid.

 

I do think CC was very close to turning it around without turnovers and I think you would have seen more out of HHS if they did. I haven't seen McCoy run the same play that many times in any game. Dale is a great coach and there was a method to his madness. I think it was survive and move on. The mid range receivers were open whenever they wanted them. But a tipped ball or outstanding play on a pass would make that a different game.
