The one fumble (IMHO the death play for CovCath) to start the 3rd quarter had nothing to do with HHS "D". If you remember the score was 14-7 and CovCath had the ball starting the 3rd quarter when (if I am not mistaken) on the 1st play, the snap was high and it upset the timing of the play causing Bir to miss the hand off to Bir. HHS then went on to score making it a 14 point lead.

 

The one fumble by Bir that was recovered by CovCath #51 was indeed a major hit on Bir by a HHS player.

 

I still believe the fumble late in the game by #87 wasn't a fumble but a incomplete pass as the kid through my glasses dropped the ball prior to taking a step and the HHS guys in the press-box agreed with me.

 

The fumble on the attempted pass by Bir, I am going to have to wait and see the film as I couldn't tell if the arm was moving forward or not, but #82 for HHS was a man amongst boys tonight!

My memory says it was not a major hit. I think the defender made a good play on the ball. Blake didn't go down as a result of the hit. He turned to look back if I remember correctly.

 

Clyde, you didn't see the ball go flying 5/6 yards backwards in the air and you didn't see Bir do a 360 on the play due to the hit? BTW that was with the benefit of seeing the hit live and through my glasses and on Hudl via slow motion. Play #64 CovCath HUDL

And indeed it was on a fourth down play and I understand where you are coming from but it still wasn't a fumble.

 

BTW the play that killed CovCath was the 1st play after the half when the ball was snapped high causing B. Bir to miss the hand off to L. Bir. The HHS "D" did nothing on that play to cause the fumble which turned into a 25 yard 6 play TD for HHS that gave HHS a 14 point lead that CovCath couldn't come back from!

Actually, my point wasn't so much to single Donovan out (although one could rightly do so) as much as to say that it was the effort and skill of the individual Bluebird players that made the difference, not a missed snap or unforced fumble.

It was a good size crowd, stands were full with many standing around edges of field. The game against Lex Cath will be played at DCM. HHS is region 4 winner and since it is an even year, we will host.

Was glad to see the Birds take care of the ball last night as that was a concern going in. Even with the number of talented backs HHS has I was not surprised that Dale left the ball in Donovan's hands in a big game. I was surprised at the CCH punt with 5 minutes left. I reaiize it was 4th and very long but time was running out to get the two scores needed. Congratulations to CCH on their season. It's certainly been a pleasure to watch Bir play over the past 3 years. Good luck to him and the rest of the CCH seniors.
