What was the crowd size like?

 

Smaller than the playoff game last year and the regular season game this year. The CovCath kids were a lot more subdued this year as opposed to last year in the playoffs.

#82 is man amongst boys out there. Strength, size, work ethic, motor and IQ. He is a GREAT football player and an even better friend to his buds and an outstanding young man. A joy to be around. Congratulations Seth and to all the student athletes on the field!

I had the chance to shake his bear paw last night and I mean to tell you, the kids a beast. And he is only a Junior! When this kid finally finds himself completely, it is going to be very scary.

Cov. Cath beat Cov. Cath tonight? So minus the turnovers they would have won?

 

 

So lets look at when the Birds scored.

 

First score was on a long drive by HHS 11 plays covering 66 yards. Great drive by HHS

 

Second score was after CovCath failed to move the ball a yard and a half twice, 8 plays and 71 yards later TD HHS. Another great drive by HHS but more importantly a outstanding "D" effort by HHS.

 

Third score was after the Bir to Bir fumble and considering that it was indeed the 1st play to start the 3rd quarter, it was a death blow to CovCath and indeed it was a gift to HHS, as HHS only had to cover 25 yards to take the game from a close 7 point lead with CovCath having the ball, to a 14 point lead.

 

My point is after the HHS third "TD", CovCath marches down and scores to bring it back to a 7 point lead but without that fumble (and remember the HHS "D" had nothing to do with it) it's now a tie score and it's a completely different ball game.

 

Being behind HHS at HHS by 14 is a tough task to overcome, it requires you to not only score to bring it back to a seven point lead but then to stop HHS and to score again just to tie.

 

I would have liked the CovCath odds, if indeed they had marched down the field after the start of the 3rd quarter to tie the game and in doing so would have given CovCath a huge lift, instead of the fumble and giving HHS a huge mental lift!

 

If you don't think that 3rd TD was a gift for HHS and a death blow to CovCath, that the HHS "D" had nothing to do with, then well I guess we just will have to agree to disagree.

 

CovCath committed far too many TO's, some cause by HHS and some either by poor decisions or just sloppy play, while HHS took care of the ball.

 

HHS wins CovCath losses!

HHS offensive game plan was not much different than the first game. Steady dose of Donovan McCoy - mix in a counter to Seidl and a carry or two for Harris. Pass when down and distance dictated.

 

The difference was the offensive personnel groupings. HHS went big at every position, including multiple double tight end sets. Haven't seen that much all season. Scat back Jalen Hayes will be well rested for next week as Harris and Seidl got all the reps. WR's Green, Weyer, Feggins, and Brockett spent most of the evening on the sidelines as the more physical trio of Hergott, Christian, and Turner made plays. Kyle Thurston at TE gave the Birds another huge body up front. When HHS goes to that Super Jumbo package they average 275 a man up front with a couple of 250 lb. OL in the backfield.

 

HHS depth is incredible.

So Highlands defensive pressure all game long didn't have anything to do with the Bir to Bir fumble? They weren't rushing to complete the handoff before they were tackled in the backfield?

Spiceman, as we all know, really good teams and programs give the opposing team a real false sense of "what ifs"

It happens all the time in sports...

It was close, and CovCath had their chances, but the idea that the defense didn't have a hand in the turnovers doesn't wash.

Did you see the JC films or attend that game? If so you did notice all night long the high snaps that caused problems in the CovCath backfield and messed up the flow of the plays in that game? If not, then try to see that film and tell me that the JC "D" caused the high snaps!

 

Listen guys you won the game, your a better team, you will win another state championship and I will be rooting for you because of guys like BF, LN, the gentlemen in the press box and your kids, but just because you have a H on you, doesn't mean your always correct and on that one single play to start the 3rd quarter, it wasn't your "D" that caused the fumble.

Congratulations to Highlands on the big win, and also a congrats to CovCath on a solid season. There's no doubt that the current CCH coaching staff have things in much better shape with the program, and I'm sure the upward trend will continue.

Did you see the JC films or attend that game? If so you did notice all night long the high snaps that caused problems in the CovCath backfield and messed up the flow of the plays in that game? If not, then try to see that film and tell me that the JC "D" caused the high snaps!

My thoughts:

 

TOG is right about the handoff fumble on the first play of the second half. The HHS defense had absolutely NOTHING to do with that - simple mistake in the exchange between two high school kids. For the rest of the turnovers, the HHS defense had at least something to do with them. IMO, two plays stood out. The HHS 4th down stop in the first half and the fumble on the first play of the second half by CCH. Without those two plays, the outcome could have been different. If I was a CCH fan (I am not, I am a big HHS fan), I would be very frustrated because this was a game they could have won without the turnovers. However, turnovers are a big part of football (the biggest part actually). I am actually surprised the score was as close as it turned out to be. If you told me before the game that CCH would have 4 more turnovers than HHS, I would have thought HHS would win by 30 or more. Basically, CCH had to play close to a perfect game to win. They did not - not even close actually - and they lost.
