When did Clay and Mboro become such good allies, or are you guys from Clay just hate Laurel schools that bad. Proffitt head and shoulders above the rest of the "points" in the 13th.

Not this again. I have seen all three play and this is my take.

 

Proffit-by far the best overall point guard in the region easy. No questions asked.

 

Allen-The quickest PG in the region.

 

Stewart-The better shooter.

 

All of these players have different components that make them good. Proffit just has more of them.

We're not North hater or M-boro lovers. We just simply have our own opinion and everyone goes crazy about it. I don't think Profitt is as talented as Miller. You guys are probably from South or North and have watched Miller play maybe twice.

Im no more critical of Miller now then I ever was before. I have always said exactly the same thing..... Miller is an ubelievably talented shooter, a very good athlete, and a solid basketball player. However he plays little defense, takes ill advised shots, turns the ball over alot, and doesnt seem to hustle much unless its to get open for a shot.

 

I think its totally crazy to compare a player like that to a player like Proffitt who is possibly just as good a shooter, a little less athletic but much bigger and stronger, and not just a solid basketball player, but a great bball player. He plays defense very well, doesnt turn the ball over much at all, is very smart and methodical, and hustles his butt off even if its to get another player open or dish an assist.

 

Miller is a better shooter.

Proffitt is a better overall player and better PG.

That has always been my stance since day one!

Miller is more than a good shooter, but he has his weaknesses. I just don't think Profitt and Miller are the same type of player. I think Allen and Profitt are more comparable.

 

As far as competition, I read this fall where Miller played for the Tennessee Travelers last summer. Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's pretty good competition.

The part I bolded is one of the most ridiculous things I've ever read. So if I'm being honest about the fact that in the five times I've seen Miller play I haven't seen him play a lick of defense, and that I've seen him take a ton of bad shots and make a ton of turnovers, I'm not being honest, I just dislike him??? Wow. The reasoning behind that is so faulty I don't know where to go from here.

 

Bottom line is this: Last night was the first time I've seen him have a good game, and he was darned impressive. The other four he just looked like someone who shot the ball too much, and as a result got his points because of sheer volume. To be honest, he reminded me a lot of Patrick Sparks if Patrick were allowed to shoot it 25+ times a game.

I totally agree with you. Last night, he was impressive, BUT like you said, let Sparks shoot 25+ times and see what happens. From what I've seen of him, he can shoot the lights out, but defense is VERY suspect and I've seen him force a ton of shots.

Middlesboro would be a very good team if the players shared the ball more like they did in the first half last night. But when Miller takes shot after shot after shot, then everything goes into disaray. By no means am I downing Miller, I just believe he's one dimensional.

You will have to enlighten me but I dont know alot about the Tennessee Travelers and know even less about who they play and what level those teams are..... but I do know that an AAU championship team, the KHSAA Sweet 16 All Tourney team, and the KY All Star team are pretty darn good, and Proffitt has already played on the 2 former of those teams and will most definantly be on the latter.

 

I agree with Jim Schue as far as your statement about my opinion being due to animosity toward the player. Thats total craziness and most anyone who has seen Miller play has the same opinion.

I believe this says it best. I do wonder how Proffit & Miller's 3 pt % compare.

Allen has already signed with a Presbyterian college team at the Division 2 level I believe.

 

Miller and Proffitt will both be playing college ball somewhere. Not sure what level.... just depends on who you ask. I believe they both have the ability to play big time college bball.... but thats very hard to do and they will both probably either go anywhere from D1AA to NAIA level.

 

I think Proffitt's weakness are mostly due to athletic ability so it may be hard to overcome those, however with hard work anything can be accomplished and if anyone is willing to work its Proffitt. The same goes for Allen. Despite this, they are two of the smartest, most fundamentally sound, and complete players I have ever seen in HS. Very mature players for HS kids and both winners which is something you cant teach.

 

Miller's weaknesses can definantly be overcome.

1.) Decision making can be improved on and I see that has his biggest weakness..... if he fixes his decision making then he doesnt take as many ill advised shots and doesnt turn the ball over as much.

2.) With his athletic ability he could be a great defensive player..... however defensive hustle is something thats hard to get a kid to do if he doesnt want to deep inside himself. Miller will have to improve this part of his game if he wants to play big time college basketball. If he hasnt developed the "want to" to play defense at this stage he probably never will.

Thats how I feel Proffitt and Miller stack up against each other. Not sure where Allen fits in...... at the beginning of the season I felt Allen was better then Miller but as the season has progressed I believe the best PG debate comes down to Proffitt and Miller, although Allen isnt far behind and is a great player in his own right.

Look who profitt has around him. They are loaded. I bet that if he was on Middleboro's team he wouldnt average 15 a game because teams can focus on him and single him out and double team him. He is not a gifted scorer. He is not very quick but he handles it well and is strong. Miller puts up those numbers with double teams and everything because he knows how to score. Ty is a solid high school point guard and may very well win Mr. Basketball next year because they are in a cupcake region and he already has one ring. I think Walls at scott county is better than profitt and hes only a junior. the difference is that Walls gets his teammates involved like profitt plus he can shoot better than Profitt. I played at Scott County and have played against him several times and know he can play.

 

Let me say this as someone who has watched Ty play for several years.

 

1. Proffitt is also only a junior but has started varsity since 8th grade.

2. The college coaches looking at Ty seem to feel differently than you on his collegiate potential.

3. He is a gifted scorer, but that isn't the role he is asked to take on.

4. He is a much better athlete (and quicker) than you give him credit for, apparently you didn't see him on the football field this past fall. Tony Franklin believes he could be a D1 WR if he chose to go that route. Not many non-athletes gain this kind of respect. At 6'3", he has excellent quickness. No not Rondo kind of quickness, but quick enough to get the job done.

5. Something you fail to mention is his fundamentals. He always has his head up and sees the floor better than 99% of the players in HS you see.

6. Joe B Hall commented that while he liked Walt's performance in the sweet 16, he thought that Ty was the MVP as he ran his team better than anyone in the tourney. This as a sophomore.

7. The comment that this team could still win as they do without Ty is just crazy. I saw games where he was in foul trouble, and there are 2 keys to beating South Laurel. First shut down Walt Allen, second, if Proffitt gets in foul trouble and has to sit, SL cannot bring the ball up the floor. I saw this a couple of times last year and realized just how important he is to this team.

 

Apparently, he has something some of you never will, ... a state title ring, and it just ticks so many of you guys off. Too bad. I am knocking the other point guards, Walls is excellent, no doubt about it. But it is amazing how little you know about this young man you are knocking.
