  1. Exactly! And that's why sometimes good players don't look as well in these situations. Most are used to playing as a team, with chemistry. These games are overblown. They cost money to the players and for those who have already committed to a team, they are unnessacary and not much fun because of just what you said........ ballhogs and showboats. Sometimes it's better to work on your own game at home, lift weights and get ready for college ball.
  2. It simply means that he does not have to try out. A preferred walk on is recruited by the school. A regular walk on is (in some schools) goes through a tryout process like the Knight School but less time. Most larger schools don't even use the term "preferred" any longer because its assumed that the coach will choose whom he wants anyway.
  3. My emphasis was only that MR. is singular which means that it's based on an individual's talent. Agreed. but since that is true, shouldn't the title only come from those who make it to the sweet sixteen? Very good point. That's my point, we don't know what exactly the voters look at. I agree, but once again you are giving your opinion. We don't know. good guess, but just that. Do you see my point............. It would be nice if we saw, in print, the criteria used to choose Mr. Basketball.
  4. The problem is, that there are no stedfast and consistent criteria for Mr. Basketball. Nobody knows how they are picked. Stats? Won/Loss record? How far team advanced? How far the team went the year before? College potential? Who knows? By the term itself, MR. Basketball, seems to leave TEAM out of the equation. I would like to know how many Mr. Basketballs of the past averaged scoring less than 20 points per game. It seems that Mr. Basketball, by name, is an individual honor, not based on team performance but individual performance. I wouldn't think that it would be based on college potential because it deals with one particular and previous year. But again, since there are no standards, we can only leave it up to a group of individuals with individual and different ideas as to what it takes to be Mr. Basketball.
  5. I'm so glad that somebody finally put in print these facts about the 3. I've also known this but never posted it for some reason. I get so tired of hearing the easy cliches' like " live by the 3, die by the 3". The fact is if a player shot 50-60 percent from inside the arc, we wouldn't be saying "live by the 2, die by the 2." Most people tend only to repeat what they have heard from someone else without thinking these things all the way through. This quote by fastbreak ought to be pinned permanently to the top of the basketball forum EVERY YEAR. Thanks Fastbreak, I can finally die in peace!
  6. There you go again......... a bias Bell diss If he can walk on at Ky, he can play for plenty of other D1 schools as bad as you may have to admit it. Why can't you give him an honest break? thousands of players would love to have the opportunity to walk on at UK. Why don't they? 1. they are not ask. 2. They are not good enough.
  7. That's probably below the belt How many former players on this site wished that their coach would have been more aggressive about getting them a scholarship? I think Miller ability is worth a coach giving it his all.
  8. I just read where Miller broke the record last night for the most 3's made in one year at 146 .The previous record was held by former Ky Wildcat Chris Harrison.
  9. He may play NAIA or D2, but he will have the opportunity to play D1. Heck, If Pitino is giving him a look at L'ville, it would be absurd to think that a mid level D1 would not be offering. His game would have to improve just as ANY PLAYER that comes out of high school at any level. Here's the question, if he shoots as good as he does now, wouldn't it be logical to assume he will get better?
  10. The big men really shut down Johnson. Good to see Whitaker back
  11. I think that Miller will end up playing in a Mid major D1 program.
  12. That might be the only winning team that ky has this next year
  13. I guess I'll take that as a compliment. But remember he holds STATE records not just mountain records. They are not a dime a dozen. Do you think that he has the ability to learn good defensive skills? He seems pretty athletic.
  14. Could be true but find me an example where he has given him any props. I'll feel better.
  15. At least the Bell guys give Miller some props. I don't ever remember you saying anything good about Miller. It looks like you just don't like him period. This doesn't help me give what you say much credence.
  16. 1. Log Mountain, you evidently haven't played with Miller for a couple of years. 5'10"? 2. Unofficial visits are limited by NCAA. They must be used sparingly and can only be used certain times of the year. Players who live close by sometimes are ask to come. A place like L'ville can get kids to do that. 3. Ukbell, Miller may not get to sign, but he gets a visit. At l'ville that's special. 4. Miller on defense...... he's athletic enough to learn. Defensive players have to learn to shoot. What's the difference? You need both. 5. Why don't some reporter simply call his parents and ask about schools and visits and get the real scoop instead of guessing about who is calling and who is not?
  17. bell14, Once again, good honest post. I would say the only difference would be that he does have d1AA interest. I honestly don't understand the difference in official and unofficial except for NCAA rules. The difference would be that he would have to pay his own expenses to come. But once you arrive on campus, they still provide a pass to the game and will talk sometime in the process. He would still have to receive a verbal invitation that was instigated by the school in either case. I would also agree that we all need to just let this play out, understanding that no matter what happens, he got an opportunity that most kids only dream about.
  18. Nothing really. It's a legitmate question. It just seems that we're all putting too much thought into it all. They just called and ask him to come and visit. I'm sure that they would not bring him up just to say "your no good, go home". They may ask him to walk on which, to me, is unbelievable that they would even do that. But even if they don't ask him to walk on, just to be called to take a visit from Rick is special.
  19. Good stuff, but, by the above comment, are you saying that you think this information about them contacting him is false? I'm just having a hard time understanding what you mean.
  20. Why dont' somebody just call Coach Jones and get the official scoop.
  21. Very well stated bell. I would say this however. This is not much ado about nothing. If it is what the other thread stated, then he was contacted by phone, by an official basketball person to come and make a visit. This is not a generic contact. And it does happen a lot at the end of someone's senior season. (ala Loften). True, nothing may come of it, but I can't think of another kid in the 13th region in the last several years who has even gotten this far with Louisville..... I think it's just the fact that shooters with his range and ability are rare and the Loften fiasco has caused coaches to take a step back and realize that some players may be unable to play defense but can shoot while some can play defense but can't shoot. Given this scenario, coaches always choose the defender, but if you do that in every case, you never have a bonifide shooter. One last thing. I think that Miller would serve himself better to go to an OVC school were he would have more of an opportunity to excel unless he wants to go into coaching. If that's the case, BEG for any opportunity to be on Ricky's bench.
  22. He has plenty of NAIA people on him and D2 offers. I also read where he is being looked at by OVC teams and SOCON teams. The L'ville visit will probably make others take a hard look.
