Look who profitt has around him. They are loaded. I bet that if he was on Middleboro's team he wouldnt average 15 a game because teams can focus on him and single him out and double team him. He is not a gifted scorer. He is not very quick but he handles it well and is strong. Miller puts up those numbers with double teams and everything because he knows how to score. Ty is a solid high school point guard and may very well win Mr. Basketball next year because they are in a cupcake region and he already has one ring. I think Walls at scott county is better than profitt and hes only a junior. the difference is that Walls gets his teammates involved like profitt plus he can shoot better than Profitt. I played at Scott County and have played against him several times and know he can play.

No talent on the Scott County team and that is a shame! And Ty with all that D1 caliber talent on his team. It's just not fair!

Let me say this as someone who has watched Ty play for several years.

 

1. Proffitt is also only a junior but has started varsity since 8th grade.

2. The college coaches looking at Ty seem to feel differently than you on his collegiate potential.

3. He is a gifted scorer, but that isn't the role he is asked to take on.

4. He is a much better athlete (and quicker) than you give him credit for, apparently you didn't see him on the football field this past fall. Tony Franklin believes he could be a D1 WR if he chose to go that route. Not many non-athletes gain this kind of respect. At 6'3", he has excellent quickness. No not Rondo kind of quickness, but quick enough to get the job done.

5. Something you fail to mention is his fundamentals. He always has his head up and sees the floor better than 99% of the players in HS you see.

6. Joe B Hall commented that while he liked Walt's performance in the sweet 16, he thought that Ty was the MVP as he ran his team better than anyone in the tourney. This as a sophomore.

7. The comment that this team could still win as they do without Ty is just crazy. I saw games where he was in foul trouble, and there are 2 keys to beating South Laurel. First shut down Walt Allen, second, if Proffitt gets in foul trouble and has to sit, SL cannot bring the ball up the floor. I saw this a couple of times last year and realized just how important he is to this team.

 

Apparently, he has something some of you never will, ... a state title ring, and it just ticks so many of you guys off. Too bad. I am knocking the other point guards, Walls is excellent, no doubt about it. But it is amazing how little you know about this young man you are knocking.

Just because I say Miller IMO is the most TALENTED guard in the 13th makes me a Laurel hater?? Rumor has it that Clay & Mboro along with a few more 13th teams are trying to figure out a way to consolidate so they can stop those great dynasties over there in Laurel.

Agree with your two points. Ty playing D1 football is a long shot.... I dont even think he is the best wr on his team. Although I think if Ty had focused on football like he has basketball, and SL was a little more of a traditional football power then he could definantly go D1, although it would be D1AA. The problem with playing football at SL is you arent gonna get alot of exposure even if you are great. However Ty has the raw ability to be a great football player, just got a pretty late start. I think his speed would hurt him too. As far as what Tony Franklin said...... I'm willing to bet he would say almost anything considering SL is paying him a pretty penny to come in and teach his high powered offense. Newayz.... that belongs in the football forum.

I think that is the heart of the issue here with all the Clay Co. posters hostility toward SL and Proffitt. They will do anything to avoid admitting that SL is the top dog in the 13th now.... and probably will be for quite some time. I understand their pain though..... its tough being a big fish in a small pond, especially when a bigger fish comes along.

1. I didn't say he started the entire season, far from it, but after the KBA 8th grade state tourney that SL lost to Rose Hill, Ty became a parttime starter, as an 8th grader, on the varsity squad, with the Florida transfer PG, Johan Rivera. Ty even played more of the #2 spot when Johan was on the floor, but double with some PG responsibilities.

2. I agree that it would be an extreme long shot for Ty to play D1 football. But, to see what he did as a WR in his first year playing since little league, he was excellent and has all the tools. Ty knows that his future is in basketball, and so does everyone else. But Franklin felt that if Ty focused on football instead, he could have a great shot to play D1. He couldn't believe that the kid had not played since little league. 6'3", great hands, smart, tough, good speed (not great speed, but good speed) and deceiving quickness at his height. I talked with players from a few teams that played SL in football, and they thought they would break him in half when he played football. Their comments after playing against him ranged from 'Wow' to 'He was the best receiver we faced all year' and 'he is the real deal'.

The number of talented players at South Laurel will always be pretty high, but from what I have seen over the past several years, their level of talent will go down a little and several 13th region teams with catch up and others will surpass them in a couple of years. The coaching at South is at a high level now also and South will remain very good as long as the current staff is in place.

North and South Laurel will be good for the 13th region though in my opinion.

SL has dominated the 13th region this season.... and probably will again next season.... although they will be more human. The next season they will be back to even par with the rest of the 13th region teams, but with their coaching staff, and the level of talent that they consistently have, they will be a perennial power in the 13th, and very easily a top 5 team each year.

 

Ppl seem to think that SL was only great last season and that they have had a great run that is about to end. If you are talking about there run as far as dominating the state then I would say you are right. In 2 years they will be brought back down to earth. But they dominated the 12th region for several years prior to there state title, and made it to the state tourney several times, not including the year Wayne won it. I dont see why they wont be able to do the same in the 13th. I see SL being the NEW perennial favorite year in and year out, even after they lose this years and next years class. Dont get me wrong.... they wont dominate the 13th like they have this year.... and they will take some losses.... but I see them being the favorite to win it come tourney time for quite some time, unless they have an off year or their program just goes sour all of a sudden. A mediocre SL is still a top 3 team in the 13th region.

Clay hasn't been a threat in several years and probably wont be for a few more but what amazes me is, it always has been and always will be Clay against the world. Some people need to read 'Who Cut The Cheese' as it might help them deal with the change in wind direction a little better.
