November 5, 201213 yr Same here. People get to wrapped up in personal issues. So he cheated on his wife, he messed up. The only person he owes anything to is God and his wife.Get right with them. I bet none of us worry about our doctors, lawyers, insurance agents, etc who committed adultery. Why should it matter about a college head football coach? I guess because we expect them to be something that none of us are, which is "perfect". If Mitch doesn't call Petrino then he's a fool. Someone will call him and I bet you can watch the wins rack up. Also, I would bet with his time off he's realized his image is almost unrepairable, I would expect him to be on the up and up from here on out...

Whoever UK hires has to inject energy into this fan base immediately. 19,000 butt's at CW wont cut it, and if the fan base isn't energized that's what you can expect... I'm not sure if you understood me. This program needs to hire someone intense to get these guys fired up about UK football again. Whoever is hired is not going to come in from day one and finish 10-2 9-3 or 8-4. It will take time.
November 5, 201213 yr Cowher or Gruden or your going to get more of what you have had over the last 25 yrs. Normal coaches will struggle to recruit at Kentucky. Since it is illegal to pay for players (and KY has tried) you have to spend money on someone who can get the players. Bill Cowher calls the top recruit at every position and he gets an invite into the living room 100% of the time. What is that worth? 3, 4, 5 million a year. Pay the football coach what you pay the basketball coach and go get Cowher.

My point is that there have been plenty of coaches to be hired and do great things coming in w/o rockstar like hype. The idea of UK getting Gruden or Cowher is an absolute pipe dream...

There's a whole lot more to it than just cheating on his wife. He has commitment issues. Just ask the Atlanta Falcons. He would be gone after one season if something opened up. I totally agree and have been saying the same things to people who look at me weird for mentioning Petrino. The man has messed up, he's burned some bridges and I think (or I would hope) he has realized that and ready to make re-establish himself. I was talking with an older gentleman the other day at McDonald's and we were talking UK football/coaches, etc; and I mentioned Petrino. He looked at me and, was almost blown away. He gave reasons for leaving ATL mid season and cheating on his wife. Well, this older gentleman had a pretty big surgery due to some heart complications and asked him, "Mr. So and So....did you happen to inquire about how good or bad your doctor's marriage was or if he had any problems with it in the past?" As you can guess, he responed with a, "Well _____ no. I was just told he was one of the best." To which I politely said, "You just proved my point." I'm a Republican (more moderate than total right winger), but I'd take Clinton or JFK as our next president in a heartbeat, and they got more you know what than a toilet seat on the side.

Sports I may not have read carefully enough, but I didn't see a quote from Barnhardt anywhere in that article that said he is not considering Petrino. I saw : And it will not include Bobby Petrino, according to sources with knowledge of Kentucky's initial list of candidates.

That really backfired on Alabama in making that hire.
