What do coaches who get hammered in the first round playoff games think?

Featured Replies

Anyone know how many 3 seeds beat 2 seeds this weekend? I'm not sure but I think it's 16 which also proves the proposed system of only 1 and 2 seeds is extremely flawed.

All of this arguing, every single year, about ONE extra week of football, as if it's some great travesty to have one more week.

It's not the extra week for me at all. It's about the quality of the playoff system. The time frame doesn't make a difference to me.

You may want to do your research before making such comments. Cooper and conner's schedule was identical except for 1 game. That game was against a team which Cooper had never beaten before and they won.

So your reasoning is very flawed. I'd love to know how scheduling up to play 4 teams in a higher class is not playing a tougher schedule as well as scheduling teams the school has never beaten before being considered not a tough schedule. This schedule includes 3 of the non district teams that last year combined for 23 wins.

It's not like anyone looking at Cooper's schedule this year thought it was an easy schedule before the season started, actually before the season started Cooper was playing 5 teams that were in the coaches top 10 pre season poll and Cooper didn't even make the list. 4 of those teams were non district games. So for you to say they didn't schedule like conner did then you have no clue what you are talking about. Pre season Cooper had more teams they were playing against that were ranked higher than Conner's teams.

One last thing, you are saying the #12 team in the entire state should not make the playoffs. You are also saying a top 5 team in class 5A in the entire state in the majority of polls should also not make the playoffs, and finally you are saying a team that is ranked higher than Conner in over 90% of the polls in state and nationally should also not be allowed in the playoffs as well as the team with the best record in district 5 and finally the team that beat the #1 seed also should not be allowed in the playoffs....Genius!

I still don't understand all the fuss, who gives a rats butt if their are blowouts, need i remind you that the team you don't think deserved to be in the playoffs in the first place Cooper just blew out a 2 seed which blows your entire playoff ssuggestion out of the water. Also it proves that Cooper did belong in the playoffs, you may want to think about what your suggesting before posting it.

So according to you, a team with only 1 loss the entire year (as well as having the best record among all the teams in it's district), a team that is one of the co-champions of district this year as well as defending district champion from last year should sit home.....Genius! All I can say is thank god you have nothing to do with choosing which teams get in and which don't.

I read most of your rant, and I'm not sure where you get off with the personal jabs and sarcastic shots. I said in another thread, Cooper is has a nice team, and I was impressed with their first round playoff win. I WAS rooting for them. You put a stop to that rather quickly.

As for anything I said being flawed, it's simple math. Everyone knows how the three team tie-breaker works. Cooper's tie breakers didn't win enough games, period.

You can disagree with me all you want, but anyone who has been on this site for any length of time knows I don't post without an understanding of what I'm talking about or without doing my research.

One last thing. When you write, "one last thing", to start a paragraph that should probably be your final paragraph. Know what I mean? Or maybe that's just my, "genius", seeping out. Go Dragons.

My sentiments exactly.:thumb:

Have you checked ohios system its worse than ours. One other thing, you could move closer to work.

Actually, Ohio's system almost always gets the playoff field right. You almost never hear anyone from Ohio complain about the Harbin system.

That isn't at all what that proves.

That isn't at all what that proves.

It proves that there are many 3 seeds that deserve to be in the playoffs and are better than many 2 seeds.

Just proving a point that if you want the best teams in the tournament then you can't simply take 1 and 2 seeds only when the silly tie breaker system is in play.

But it happens all the time in all the sports.

I gave you an example of Holy Cross in Basketball and Baseball. They have had some very good teams but with Holmes and CovCath in Basketball and CovCath and Beechwood in Baseball they stay home being the third team.

Heck Holy Cross could win or be the runner-up in the 36th and 34th and many, many other districts but......

Just wait a couple of years and Cooper will be in 6A and then they won't even smell the Championship with "T" and St.X being in 6A.

Is it fair? No not at all but it is, what it is!

I apologize if you were offended, didn't mean to.

I was simply pointing out that the tie breaking system in play does not always seed teams by the best to worst. The playoff game alone was an example of just that. That #2 seeds aren't always the better teams. 16 3 seeds beating 2 seeds this weekend sort of shows that don't you agree?

The point I was making was just because the tie breaker system is in place does not mean that system clearly places the best team as #1, 2nd best team as #2 and 3rd best team as #3.

Teams involved can not control how many wins thier opponents have on a season. Also something never mentioned in this tie breaker scenerio is out of the 3 teams

involved, only 2 teams are from the same area which means only those two teams plaay similar out of district opponenets (Conner and Cooper) So. Oldham doesn't playy any of the same teams thaqt the other 2 play and vice versa. So to do a fair comparison and state that you can state which teams are better than the others by counting games their opponents had won is not fair to the teams involved in the tie breaker.

As I said earlier, it's not fair to punish a team that won every single game they played except 1 against another team that is also tied for the district especially when tthe team in question beat the other district team that beat the team that beat you and keep them out of the playoffs because of some silly point system...I'm simply talking to those that think only #1 and #2 seeds should be in the playoffs even with ties in district.

You want to talk about the system that is in place for tie breakers and we should go by it, then I am all for it, but don't hand pick what you want ot use and toss out other things and that is what you are doing. The system is in place to have 4 district teams go to the playoffs, so go with it. You can't have 1 without the other and that is what you want to do.

If you want to preach about the tie breakers and that is how it is so go with it, then I say you alsohave to go with the rest of the rules that set up the playoffs.

I still don't understand the people on here who think it's a shame kids get to play in the playoffs. What is it hurting you?

But it happens all the time in all the sports.

But my only point is this....at least give them the opportunity to win a title by allowing them to play in the playoffs. that has been my only point this entire time. If a team has a succesful season, they should have the opportunity to play in the playoffs.

you are right, in a few years we will be in 6A and won't smell a state title with Trinity eetc. but at least they have the opportunity to pull off that miracle win. that is all I am saying, at least they would get the opportunity to play for it, you never know....on any given Friday.

The gist of this entire thread is not about the one or two teams (Cooper) that have a successful season and still fall out as a 3 seed. It is about the 48 to 60 teams that have 0, 1, 2 or 3 wins that have had very unsuccessful seasons that get demolished in week one of the playoffs.

The majority of coaches that have a team destined for a #4 seed each year do not think the game serves any purpose.

Not sure what your point is, you can't play any better non district than winning every game you played. This inlcudes beating every team that the #2 seed in district lost to.

I am not talking about non district games, I am talking about district games. Play better in the district and there is not a problem. I agree the tie bereaker system is flawed, but if a team wins all of its district games, the tie breaker does not make a difference. It would have been better for them to lose their one game to a non-district team and win all of the district games, then they would be the number one seed.

Ohio is lauging at us....i work in Cincy and they read the paper and ask why a team that is 1-9 making playoffs....get rid of first week. Do something in the regular season and you dont have to worry about being a 4 seed.

Ohio has 9-1 teams that don't make the playoffs, your saying this makes sense? Whos laughing at who here.

Ohio may have had 9-1 teams that failed to make the playoffs this year, I don't know of any in the Cincinnati area.

Again, you almost never hear anyone from Ohio complain about their playoff format. And by almost never I mean I can go several years and not hear a complaint. The Harbins almost always get it right, and the coaches and AD's know it.

I think the coaches that complain about the getting another week of practice and chance to get better says a lot about why their teams are where they are.
