A few years ago Somerset went into the playoffs a #4 seed out of a very tough district, then proceeded to make it to the Semi-state having beaten 2 district foes in the playoffs that they had lost too during the season. I guess this example is a lot of the reason that I am for letting all play.

Other sports have district tournaments, football does nto. it is not really the same thing.

??? all teams start in the playoffs then advance, no different than football. Except in Basketball you can lose a playoff game and advance...lose in football and your done.

IF that is how the coach wants to run the playoffs, then let me ask, how do you decide the top 2 teams? Take class 5A district 5 this year. There were 3 teams all tied with only 1 loss in district play, the 3rd seed in that district had a record this season of 9-1, is that coach suggesting that the team with the best record in that 3 way tie with a record of 9-1 who also happened to be the 3 seed in the playoffs should not get to play in the playoffs? That is insane.

Another consideration is potential injuries in a 1 vs. 4 match-up.

 

I think that most coaches in games where they know the game is getting out of hand (score wise) call off the dogs pretty quick (preventing their own injuries as well) and put in 2nd 3rd and JV as soon as the game is in hand.

Please explain how you missing the playoffs on a coin flip was better than some other "unworthy" team getting in. Are you saying you were glad to stay home if it meant someone else didn't get in?

So lets keep it the same for the 5 percent that upset somebody.....you must be the same parent that everybody should get a participation trophy....All this everybody should make playoffs stops in grade school....beat somebody in regular season and you can move on. I agree with the 3 way tie scenario that one is tough but come on other states are laughing at us.

I never said all teams should make the playoffs. The team I root for has 5 teams int he district and they all odn't make the playoffs. I simply said there is no fair way to let a team that is tied for the top of the district to let them not make the playoffs. The 2 top teams scenerio is the one i discussed which isn't fair if you have a tie with 3 teams etc. The coin flip scenerio isn't fair to the team that losses the coin flip either. So if there are 4 teams that make the playoffs in a district so be it until something even fairer is decided. Do you take just the top 2 teams unless there is a ttie with more than 2 teams and then let 3 teams in? Then you have an odd number of teams in and who gets the bye?

 

Who cares if other states are laughing at us, seriously who cares? I couldn't care less what Ohio or anyone else thinks. Do we play them for the championship? no, so who cares what others think? Not me, I was never one that gave into to peer pressure from someone not even involved in what we do anyway.

 

I will go back to what I said when the first thread out of 50 threads on this subject popped up. Who is to say there wouldn't be any blowouts in other playoff scenerios?

 

IF the rules state you take the top 4 in each district, then go with it and move on. That is what they do now so just play. IF you want only the top 2 teams in then you hhave to seriously change how they do tie breakers because the tie breaker system inn the state is very flawed also imo. I think the way to settle tie breakers in district wwith 3 or more teams should be point differencial in all of the district games and then figure out who is 1 seed etc. I will go back to class 5A district 5 this year. 3 teams tied for district this year all with only 1 district loss against each other. The #3 seed had the best record out of all the teams and also beat the #1 seed yet ended up being the #3 seed.

 

I think if people want to change the # of teams in the playoffs then they also need to find a better tie breaker system. Until then, as some others have brought up, start complaining about Baseball, Soccer, Basketball who lets everyone in the tournament. At least Football doesn't allow every team in the state in the tournament.

So does the whining about teams getting blown out, teams get blown out during the season also...where is the outrage for that? Example: Mayfield plays in a district with 2 schools that if Mayfield wanted to they could beat by 80 every year, maybe we should force those schools to stop playing football if they can't be more competitive.

I'm Jumper_Dad but not the "Daddy" of any current player, this a silly statement trying to get a point across...no one is making either of those statements. Everyone absolutely DOES NOT receive a trophy, I agree...but what is wrong with giving them a chance to play for one?

What I am saying is that is wasn't fun losing out that way, but I would still see that happen (since things like are rare) than to see what we do right now sending all of these teams into the playoffs that have won a game, or only 1 or 2 games, in an entire season. Almost every one of those games (with 0, 1 or 2 win teams) are not worth playing or the risk of injury to those plauing. If you do not play well in the season (at least in your district) then shut up and stay home.

I agree with the coach Everage completely. Should be no more than a 5 class system. Top 2 or 3 teams advance ( not apposed to just the top 2 advancing) this makes the regular season matter. This would possibly help eliminate some of the early round blowouts. There is no reason why the season shouldn't be compete by thanksgiving, the way it used to be. Majority of fans in Kentucky have felt this way since the 6 class system came into effect.

Still waiting on all those top 2 seeds only making the playoff to give a reasonable solution to that 3rd team that doesn't make it that happens to have a better overall record than the 2 top seeds in the district and the same district record as the 2 top seeds in the district. Coin flip isn't a reasonable solution.

Cooper has a very good team this season but they lost the game they needed to win to be that 1st or 2nd seed, then even with the other nine wins Cooper had, Cooper couldn't get enough wins out those teams they played/beat, to be 1st or 2nd in the District.

 

I honestly don't know what else to say to you than to win those district games or play a better schedule!:idunno:
