November 2, 201213 yr Author Love the kid. If I was Cal, he would be my starting point guard. He was the leader of the team tonight. Have you watched the third All-Access yet? That will probably explain why he isn't...yet at least. Goodwin has more of a create for myself mentality so far, and who wouldn't if you were him coming in. That needs to change if he wants to play PG for Coach Cal and no one can change that but Goodwin. As long as Harrow can play strong, be vocal, and get it together than he's the guy. But I do think that Goodwin will consistently run some point this year. I'm a little (just a little) worried about Noel's offensive game. He doesn't really seem to have one. He's big, so he'll score if spoon-fed under the basket, but didn't show much in his arsenal tonight outside of put-back dunks and the aforementioned spoon-fed buckets. I keep reminding myself of Terrence' Jone's awful first scrimmage against Pikeville his Freshman year. He looked totally lost, and he turned out just fine. Hoping for the same for Noel. I think we knew that about Noel coming in. He wasn't recruited for his offensive game. But hopefully Coach Cal can develop that.
November 2, 201213 yr Cal said he didnt play Hood much because he wants to get the newbies a lot of minutes early. He will be in the rotation the next game.

Goodwin is going to be handling the rock more than I anticipated. - Wiltjer should be dominating teams like this and he was terrible. - I have never seen a 7 footer move like WCS. It is almost surreal to watch. Will he be the best player? - Noel is raw. But I think he will be huge on the boards and defensive presence by mid-season. The comparisons to Davis are not fair. - Going to take a while for this team to gel. I really feel the 0-2 start is imminent.

November 2, 201213 yr I only watched the first half. I didn't see any strong handle by the PGs or 2s. There were not any. I thought Harrow was terrible. He created for himself and scored some points, but he should be able to do that against Jared Polson caliber players all day.

If they play together, I think it'll be interesting to see offensively but what about their defense? I think we could see some 3-2 type zone defenses with them in together but I could be wrong. While we would generate some mismatches offensively with these guys it could leave us hanging a little defensively especially if we stick to man-to-man.

After watching Willie's footwork, I feel like he could probably guard a lot of 4's out there.
November 2, 201213 yr Author You can't take a lot away from these games, but I did want to point out that all five starts were in double digits and our top 7 scored 6+. At least there's some balance.

Them playing together will be a strength defensively and a question mark on the offensive end. Both move well laterally and are not going to get killed in the pick and roll with the other one protecting the rim. The tough part will be spacing the floor on O and developing each as a threat to pass both in the high post and block to block...
November 2, 201213 yr I think this team will be a lot like Cal's 2nd team. A lot of losses on the road. At this point no way this is a Final Four team. This team needs to improve in lots of areas. Should be an interesting season watching to see how much they develop and improve during the year.
