Right, but in the same breath you could say that Highlands can go across the river and find the same competition that you are calling NewCath and Beechwood out for not scheduling. Play great teams that will allow you to prove how competitive you are. It doesn't make sense sometimes. NewCath and Beechwood have to be mindful of numbers and preparing for a state championship. If there were scheduling flexibility, and the two could schedule Highlands when their numbers were up, and drop them when they were not, then it would make sense.

 

As has been stated by the very knowledgeable CGG12, NewCath attempted to schedule Highlands. Highlands didn't want to do it as part of the Skyline event, which is understandable. So, the effort was made. Eventually it will work out.

 

Not trying to call out NCC or Beechwood. I know it's tough for them because of their size and it's tough to predict two years out! I was just saying, No, Brossart is not in this conversation. But NCC and BW could be on given years. Maybe not always have a chance to win, but be competitive.

RCC9 I get your point and have the utmost respectfor what Coach Mueller has done and will continue to do. Bottom line is in my opinion there are Highlands faithful that call out schools for not scheduling them but I feel they do the same thing. In my opinion the schools that do not schedule Highlands and the fact that Highlands does not schedule 3 GCL schools in a season are all valid for those schools. But I felt you are calling out schools for not playing Highlands as if it is some benchmark for their program. Obviously it is not a benchmark for their program same as Highlands playing St. X Elder and Moeller in a season is not a benchmark for the Bluebird program.

 

And hey keep in mind NC was a part of the GCL in the 60's. Just food for thought.

So basically this thread is designed to say why hasn't Ryle renewed....or why won't Conner and Cooper play Highlands?

 

To reply like Leatherneck, but from a different perspective-they don't need to play Highlands to win 5A. Ryle isn't going to win 6A. Trinity is. They don't need Highlands.

 

The bigger question is and remains-If Highlands wants to be the best in the state, they have to start scheduling Trinity or St. X. (those schools by the way don't need Highlands either.) That way the Bluebirds can challenge themselves as athletes and see if they are the best. Try to see it from both sides. Highlands is awesome for a mid-sized Kentucky school. Outside of this realm, not so much.

 

Holy cow, what a view you have. Not the intention of the post at all. Where did any of the Highlands folks say they wanted to be the best? Absolutely we do, but we work our tales off trying to be the best. We don't shy from anyone. You assume HHS won't schedule Trinity. How do you know Trinity won't schedule HHS for fear of losing? Trinity schedules teams on their level and if they lose, it's okay because they were on their level. But is they were to lose to a lower division team in their own state, how would they explain that?? Not saying Trinity is scared to play HHS, just something to think about. Trinity is on a run in the last couple years, but they have been beatable in the past. Just a couple years ago, Cincy St. X manhandled Trinity. The same Cincy X team that HHS beat. So yes, they are on a tear recently, but they will come back to reality. Heck, Elder beat Moeller easily this year. Moe Beat Trinity. HHS had Elder on the ropes for 3 qtrs and if not for a 4th qtr interception, probably beats them. I know that none of us put a lot of stock in other game scores, but that does tell me that even this year's Trinity team has come back to reality a little. Yes they smashed us in the scrimmage. I get it. But I'd like to see the two teams play now. Not saying it would be a victory for HHS, but I bet it wouldn't be a blowout. You have to remember, HHS was replacing their stud leader and that was really our new guy's first competitive look. It makes a huge difference. Even some of the Trinity posters know that they have come back and once this class is gone, they will be back to normal Trinity greatness. But they will never be mediocre because they continue to push the bar. 6A schools in NKY just accept the fact that they'll never win. I say "Why not???" Work hard and good things will happen. Why can HHS do it and Ryle, SK, Camp Co, Boone, Dixie can't. You face private schools in 6A and we face private schools in 4A.

As I said from the outset Highlands is in a tough spot, but I do think they schedule creatively (meaning they know exactly what they are doing and who they are playing.) The year they had their big win against Cincy St. X the Bombers didn't make it out of the second round in Ohio playoffs. I won't be suprised to see Hgihlands and Trinity play now since the studs will be departing from the Shamrocks.

 

Hopefully you and other Birds fans will see what san diego conquistadors and mexitucky and olmstead mean by not being able to have it both ways. Teams may not play Highlands for the same reason Highlands doesn't schedule other teams.

Those games aren't very fun to watch or play in. Players get a little chippy when it gets that out of hand which I don't blame them one bit.

I've heard it from several insiders who keep close tabs on the farm system. Mark my word, when the Birds have a down year, there will be many teams licking their chops to run up the score. Not saying it's right, but it would happen.....and without a moments hesitation.

FYI St X came into that game very highly rated and had just come off easy wins over T and X. They were looking very strong to that point. As to other teams vs HHS, we're talking about HHS scheduling MORE top teams vs the others scheduling A top team.
