Congrats to the Breds last night. They dominated in every phase of the game. HC struggled most with what they have been struggling with all season which is stopping the run and tackling. They "could" have stayed in the game early (and possibly gained more confidence) but dropped a few passes from Trail that would have sustained drives and kept the NCC offense off the field. The RB for NCC was very impressive and is a heck of a player IMO. NCC is clearly the team to beat going into the 2A playoffs.

 

CGG12/Lawnboy/NKY Footballfan - Not all HC fans are dullusional. Don't hold the comments of a few against all of us. LOL.....Everyone knows I am a HC fan, but a realistic one. If these 2 teams play again, and that is a big if, from what I saw last night, the outcome will be the same. I do agree with NKYFootball fan that Coach Eviston was very classy in taking out his starters early in the 3rd quarter or else they could have scored 70+.

We are gracious! This started with shriek crying about officials not helping HC stay within 3 Tds. Most people on both sides have a good grasp of the game of football. With that being said the reason I think it's really discouraging for HC is the one advantage they thought had was the speed and athletic ability of Beal and Pouncy. Thought was way overshadowed by Hayes,Myers, and even Smith the freshmen. Also NCC's D sent LBs only twice and gave up 3 points. Oh, #3 should have been thrown out of the game.

I agree #3 for Holy Cross should have been ejected, can't say I'm surprised by his or any of their players behavior given the behavior of their coach on the side lines last night.....we could hear Coach Koz across the field from the top of the bleachers.

I have a question. It really does not matter because NCC has already locked up the #1 seed, but I am still curious. After their performance last night, I am wondering why NCC is only 5-4? The Breds offense is run first (or "run only" if it is does not need to pass) which is pretty low risk. Were there injuries earlier in the year and these players are now back? Were the 4 losses against teams that had superior defensive lines and linebackers that stopped the run? Was it that "NCC was just trying to click on all cylinders"? I'm trying to understand if there were weaknesses earlier in the year that have been fixed. If not, what would another 2A team have to look like to expose those early season weaknesses in the playoffs?

Our fellow fans. Some of our compatriots sound like Highlands fans after wins and CovCath fans after losses. Mr. Schneider always taught, win w/ class and lose w/ dignity. Some of us forgot that.

Yes, injuries and inconsistency. Outside of the shellacking at Campbell Co, they lost the other 3 by 16pts. One of those saw McNick score in the closing seconds for the win. Against SK, they were down 8 w/ the ball at the 6 going in and fumbled the snap on 4th and 1 w/ 1 minute left in the game. Against Holmes, they were driving to win the game and lost on an INT. Having Thacker back solidifies EVERYTHING. He's unsung, but invaluable to this team.

This will be my last post on this topic. I never said that this game would have stayed within 3 tds. But it is MY Opinion that NCC had 3 questionable long tds( not any of the punt returns, if there was a questionable call on that then make it 4). These calls caused HC to roll over and give up, because there was not any chance in their minds. Again NCC WON EASILY regardless of a some bad calls. All I am saying is that if they meet again in this game COULD be alot closer than people think. FYI my "grasp on the game of football" is much better than most, and yes I am biased towards my team but who on here is not at least a little bit.

 

People may argue this all they want but when HC plays teams such as the NCCs and BWs of the world many refs seem to turn a blind eye because in their mind they have picked a team to already win based on reputation. I have experienced this in person both being on the field and on the sidelines. Not everyone will agree with me on this but from what I have experienced this is true.

 

Good luck to both teams the rest of the year I hope we meet again in the playoffs and have the winner of that game keep the state title in NKY.

Yeah, I think as fans sometimes we look at teams that struggle early and try to tell ourselves they are going to get a lot better but sometimes we are blinded by our fanhood. With that being said NCC has gotten healthy and they're playing well as a team. HC struggles their O-line and D-line and I don't know if that has gotten better or worse over the course of the season. This NCC team reminds me of the 06 season b/c they lost some close games early and record wise looked rough but everyone involved the program they had what it takes to make a good run. The one thing I really think could have been exploited if NCC wanted to was the one on one match up on the outside with Franzen and the CB. The good news for HC is they will be tested again next week with Holmes who is more talented. They can take it as learning tool or pack it up and call it a year. Last night it seemed by their body language as well screaming from the sideline they were frustrated pretty quickly.

Thank you for this being your last post on the topic. I'm sure HC people also appreciate it. Punt and kick returns are just like pass plays or sweeps in the regard that if you slow motion the replay you will find a penalty somewhere. How about less about how bad officials are and more about the special teams coaching.

I'll tackle the white elephant in the room...... I have a little sympathy and a lot of respect for a kid placed in the situation of Mitch Trail. Through no fault of his own, he was literally traveled across the country to start over in HS going into his Senior yr....... I am sure the path traveled to date via NCC to HC has come with much anxiety and perhaps even regret for a 17 yr old kid (who is not the primary one responsible for making decisions about where he lands). Let's not forget that he is a kid, who I'm sure just wanted to play football, somewhere/somehow in his senior year in this foriegn land we call home.

Bottom line, be happy he has found somewhere to be and play........from this angle he seems to be a pretty good football player and a pretty good kid. Good luck to his team and to yours going forward.......folks its still just kids playing HS football.

Just curious, why did Trail not attend Highlands like his siblings, especially if he just wanted to play football.
