Tubby's Best Friend Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Curious why SV would schedule David twice? Beat them in first game 102-17.
Cubster Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 seeding purposes? A lot of schools see the benefits and fairness of seeding TBF. :ylsuper:
Bird Man Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 6 points, are you kidding me? That's gotta be close to the all-time record.
kinglion Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Isn't there some sort of unwritten code of ethics in basketball about teams like this, Kind of like in baseball where you don't steal if up by 9 runs???? If not there should be. Beating a team like that twice can't really be worth it.
Alfus21 Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Curious why SV would schedule David twice? Beat them in first game 102-17. They didn't want to schedule David, they had to because of District seeding...I still say David shouldn't have jumped in to KHSAA competition so quickly...

Darkwing Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 The most unfortunate part is that the KHSAA saw fit to make the David School part of a three team district, while making the 57th District a five team district.
LeeCoBobcatFan Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Whats sad is SV knew what to expect and still ran the score up. Sad indeed. And don't even defend them saying "They couldn't help it." You should never win by 80. I think 60 is the max you should win by. When you get up by 35+ put the younger kids in and run a weave play. If you score, so be it, but also, don't play defense like you're down 5 either. Come on. Have some compassion. Nothing wrong with winning big but, geez, respect these kids too.
Frances Bavier Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Curious why SV would schedule David twice? Beat them in first game 102-17. Good to see that Shelby Valley has been working on tightening up the defense over the last few weeks... 6 points, are you kidding me? That's gotta be close to the all-time record.I'd say that it's within 6 points of the record - at the very least. Frances

Normally, I would defend their efforts to hold down the score, but in this case, it's pretty inexcusable. SV knew (by having slaughtered them earlier in the year) that the David school had NO CHANCE of competing. SV should have given the varsity and JV the night off, and started it's freshmen team. LeeCoBobcatFan Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Exactly what I was trying to say...you just said it better.
ICED TEA Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 This is a game, not a charity. David's best competition this year has been Piarist and we all know they're not stellar competition for already established programs in the region. The only good thing that comes from this is the money David School generates from the program. Shelby Valley can't bring lesser talented players off their bench if they don't have them. They are only allowed so many on the bench anyways. I'm sure if they wanted to they could call up Virgie Middle School and ask them to send their B or C team and they would probably still win. It's just unfortunate that the David School program has to suffer this badly. Oh well.
LeeCoBobcatFan Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Shelby Valley can't bring lesser talented players off their bench if they don't have them. They are only allowed so many on the bench anyways. And I guess they have no plays to stall or any lag defense. They just can't help it. I'm sure none of the JV kids couldv'e dressed for this game. Boo Hoo, poor Shelby Valley.
Frances Bavier Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 In all honesty, the first time a team plays an opponent, I can understand how a slaughter can happen. A high school coach can't take the chance that a team he hasn't played might be extremely weak - to the point of being non-competitive. So I can see how a coach ends up in a position of having his five weakest players be prohibitively better than a very weak opponent. It happens, and neither team (or coach) gets anything out of a game like that. On the other hand, when you have already played a team once (and in this case, beaten them by 85 points) a coach KNOWS going into the game that it's going to be a mercy killing ... well, he shouldn't even dress his varsity. No possible way that the David School was going to be able to beat his JV, or even his freshmen. Frances
Nets Posted January 12, 2006 Posted January 12, 2006 Too much is made of it. Fact is David School elected to pay it's KHSAA dues and membership to be a part of Kentucky H.S. basketball.
