I will say that he did seem to know the plays rather well to not have practiced with the team all season. And apparently he had suffered some kind of injury because he wore one of those plastic face masks. Maybe he has been playing hockey?

 

Smith is a good athlete, but Neeley seems to be the better all around player PLUS he is only a jr.

 

I personally believe that if a team is so desperate to throw off the competition that they purposefully lie and mislead everyone, including people on this forum then they must not have much confidence in their team. This is obvious as all the lying and sneaking did not work. Neither SMith nor Neeley brought their gear to the gym. All this ballyhoo about Poor Robert Smith was nothing more than a bunch of crock that got Owsley absolutely NOTHING.

 

Now now, that was all coincidence and it nearly scared Lee Co out of their Nikes when they saw Smith and co out on the floor.

 

To be absolutely honest, every Lee fan and player that I have heard wanted Smith to play so that we would know what to expect come tourney time. Who knows, with Smith on the team maybe they will be able to wrestle the # 3 spot away from Wolfe or Powell.

 

The bottome line is that Owsley has no one who can stop T Rich. It is not their offense that is lacking IMO.

I agree Tyler Rich is one of the top post players in the region. Owsley did not have anyone to match up with him and Rich had his way with Owsley in the first half. Owsley did seem to do a better job defending Rich in the second half but Owsley did foul more.

I have wished this young man nothing but well wishes and I continue those wishes. But to take his eligibility to this much deception I find puzzling. I had spoke with the Coaches from Lee yesterday and they were 100% sure Robert was playing tonite. I stated that I believed he would not based on post I had read on BGP. Sorry I belived what I read.

Robert Smith shot as many air balls as he made threes. But it was obvious he had practiced with the team as he ran all the plays well. When the game was out of hand he did land some threes, but the lead stayed between 14 and 18 form th 4 minute mark in the third to the end with an occasional drop to 11 for a few seconds. Lee was in control the whole way

Robert knew the plays from summer camps. I know both AD's from Owsley, and they made SURE he did not practice. They even made random visits to the gym. Robert is just an athletic kid and a smart ball player. He probabl wached them practice. The Owsley Conty offense is not that complicated. You just can't hide your hatred for Owsley County. I wll support Lee County and the 56th, if they're not playing Owsley, and have all year. You can't say the same about Owsley.

I don't think good ball players need to know "plays". They just have a knack of knowing where to be on the court. It's kind of like common sense. You either have it or you don't. The really sad news is that Robert Smith is actually a baseball player at heart, and mearly plays basketball to condition for baseball. Wouldn't you like to have that much talent and put that much fear into a basketball team. I can't wait to see him strike out 13 or 14 batters against any team. Oh, and in the end we will see where all of these big basketball players end up in College. How many will play College basketball.....1 maybe 2...You will be able to watch Robert playing "america's game" of baseball on a College field near you! Go Robert!

I agree that the bickering should stop. The game should be fun, and this one was. I would like to comment, however, about the missed goaltending call. I will say that probably the referees did not see it, but an Owsley County player obviously grabbeg the rim and pulled it down, making a shot that may have gone in fall off the rim. I believe that the high school game has gotten so fast, and the players jump so much higher and that the defenses have gotten so intense that there is going to have to be some consideration to having a third referee on the floor. I have been going to games for a long time, and know many officials personally, and I don't believe for a minute that these gentlemen would consider doing anything but the right thing. I am also certain that if a cheerleader was elbowed in the chest that it was absolutely accidental. That being said, I do believe the time has come for a third official.

I hope the Bobcats don't have to play Owsley again. They are going to be tough.

Professor, I do not hate Owlsley as I have always stated that they produce some highly talented and Classy kids. So I do not have to hide my feelings. If I remember correctly I also called you a class individual on this very forum this week. I will continue to support Owlsley in the tournament except when they play Lee.

Well, you guys are accusing me of something I'm absolutely not guilty of, that I knew that Smith was going to play tonight, and that ticks me off. When I post something in a forum it is with all honesty. It's what I know at the tme. I don't like being accused of deception. :irked:

Seemed like Robert knew all the plays pretty well and ran the point pretty well for someone who NEVER attended any practices, or well I guess OFFICIALLY never attended any practices.

From what I could see from the game. IMO. Was that Robert usually stayed on the perimeter. He didnt have no part in alot of the plays. What he did do well was screen, shoot off screens, move without the ball, and create. But IMO he didnt have a role in most plays.
