Well, you guys are accusing me of something I'm absolutely not guilty of, that I knew that Smith was going to play tonight, and that ticks me off. When I post something in a forum it is with all honesty. It's what I know at the tme. I don't like being accused of deception. :irked:

I hope that you aren't referring to my comment about Lee Co shaking in their Nikes, because that was kind of dripping with sarcasm. As I said, I think that everyone was glad to see Smith on the floor- now any excuses for the loss are somewhat limited. I mean, T Rich is banged up probably as much as either of Owsley's players are. He took a nasty crash just a couple of nights ago. Neeley shot fine with the broken thumb or whatever it is, and Trey Congleton didn't seem to be injured. In light of things, who could be sure that any of the Owls are injured at all?

 

Owsley played a pretty good game, got some good calls thrown in (the 'popping the rim' sequence took 2 points away from Lee, placed a personal foul on Lee and resulted in a technical on Lee that gave Owsley 2 free throws and the ball- a potential 6 or 7 point play), and Lee wasn't really hitting from outside very well. Still won by 19.

 

To correct an earlier error, I said that

with Smith on the team maybe they will be able to wrestle the # 3 spot away from Wolfe or Powell.

 

As Wolfe is no longer in the 56th, they will have to wrestle with Powell and Estill.

And apparently he had suffered some kind of injury because he wore one of those plastic face masks. Maybe he has been playing hockey?

 

Well, surely he wouldn't have been injured while practicing with the basketball team, so maybe he was playing hockey, polo or some such sport and was struck in the face.

I understand that. I didn't mean to make you look bad in front of your friends. But I had no idea Smith was playing tonight. If I had I would have posted it, because I would have been one of the happiest people on earth :dancingpa , not so much for Owsley, but for Robert. He has suffered too much already. He may have made a bad decision when he transferred, but it seems others do the same thing he did and are ruled eligible to play. If I had known he was playing tonight I would have made a serious effort to have been at the game.

I must take up for the Professor, every post that I have read of his seems to be right on the money. He hasnt been wrong or tried to decieve anyone on this site yet and I dont know why anyone would try to accuse him of doing it now. This is an opinion board and everyone is entitled to his or her own opinion, but at no time should you accuse other members of being dishonest. It is not neccassary to question the character of and indivual. Ecspecially over something as mediocre as a basketball game.

It looks like some Lee County fans need to try and win with dignity. Can't we all just get along. Yes Lee Co beat Owsley Co twice. Congrats, but let it go. This is all about these kids not some foolish pride between two Counties. I'm glad to hear that Robert Smith got to play in the game. REMEMBER..he is still a young man who is just trying to get the best for himself. YOU would do the same LEECOBOBCATFAN! Don't get down on the Professor, he didn't have a clue Robert was going to play. If you remember or saw one of my earlier posts, I stated that Robert may play against Lee. The State has punished him long enough, and we all know why the State got involved...DON"T WE!

 

First, you don't know me, so you have no idea what I would do, and I don't appreciate the allegation that I would do the same. As the professor claims, I try to live my life with "honesty".

 

Second, the dignity seems to have gone out the window as far as Owsley is concerned as they were the ones who stooped to lying and misleading.

 

Third, my gripe has nothing to do with pride, but if it is as you say about the kids, then why lie?

 

Fourth, the only thing I know about Smith's situation is what I heard from those from Owsley County, which now I have come to doubt the veracity of any of it. The only reason I know the state to get involved is because he did something wrong, namely tranferring improperly. As for him being punished long enough, I personally believe that instead of more punishment should be given to those who allowed or assisted in the transfer's irregularities rather than the kid involved, but I don't set the rules or enforce them, the KHSAA does. However, Mr. Smith would not have been punished at all had he not violated the rules. I have no problem with a kid trying to better him/herself, but he/she has to do so within the guidelines set out by the KHSAA. All Randolph Morris was trying to do was better himself, but that argument doesn't always trump a rules violation, nor should it.

Lee vs Owsley WITH Smith - Lee 70 ; Owsley 51 (19 pts)

Lee vs Owsley WITHOUT Smith - Lee 79 ; Owsley 66 (13 pts)

 

How much did he help?

Smith is a good athlete, but Neeley seems to be the better all around player PLUS he is only a jr.

 

 

 

Now now, that was all coincidence and it nearly scared Lee Co out of their Nikes when they saw Smith and co out on the floor.

 

To be absolutely honest, every Lee fan and player that I have heard wanted Smith to play so that we would know what to expect come tourney time. Who knows, with Smith on the team maybe they will be able to wrestle the # 3 spot away from Wolfe or Powell.

 

The bottome line is that Owsley has no one who can stop T Rich. It is not their offense that is lacking IMO.

 

 

I agree ARC, I would rather have faced Smith now at this game. My problem comes with the deception, but I guess some people will do whatever it takes. I thought T Rich had an awesome game. He scored big and played well with several great assists. His ball handling skills as a "post man" are improved over years past.

I will agree with the goal tending call on Owsley. In the 4th quarter Owsley had chances to cut the lead to single digits with alot of time left in the game.

 

I dont know what ball game you watched but the one I was at Robert Smith shot it in Lee Counties eye from the three point line on 3 out 4 possesions. Scoring 20 points agianst one of the top teams in the region in your first game back in almost a year. I would say he played well.

Whatever my gripe with how his return was handled, I do hope his injury is not serious and that he is okay?

Everybody needs to remember it is just a ball game. Lee played well and has one of the top teams in the region. Nobody can argue with that. Who knows how long the officials at Owsley have known that Smith could play that matter was between Owsley County, Robert Smith, and the KHSAA. The good news , is that he gets to play, he is still a young man who just wants to play basketball. He has served his penalty and now he should be able to finish out his career without outside criticism.

I don't really think anyone is above criticism. (Just ask my favorite players) but I agree with you to an extent that he shouldn't be further penalized for his previous transgression.

LCBF, Smith did have some ill advise shots I will agree by no means was trying to say that he was perfect. I was just saying he played well for his first game in a long time. The outcome was not different with Smith. Owsley got beat by IMO one of the top teams in the region and the mountains. I have supported Lee County all season and I hope that they continue to play well and build on their success. Lee in my opinion is the best team in the 56th and has a strong chance of winning the 14th region. Owsley County has a fairly young team and I think that they will continue to improve as the season goes along also.

Robert injured his nose playing baseball....two years ago....and put off surgery that the doctor told him he would eventually have to have, until about two months ago. The injury was beginning to interfere with his breathing, so is parents decided on the surgery. He had to have his nose re-broken, and re-set. His doctor told him he would have to wear the faceguard in any contact sport that he played the rest of the year.

No blood at all. I am glad he is back. But it proved not to help to much against Lee. Lee played subpar tonite poor outside shooting and higher than average TO's. No answer for T(big&rich)Rich as he owned the paint.
