That anticipated semifinal matchup in A doesn't look like it will be happening this year....

It should be very obvious.

 

Many people claim the only reason Beechwood wins as much as they do is because they have several out of district players on their team so instead of everyone just guessing how about we quantify it this year to see if there is a relationship between a weak Beechwood team and lack of tuition students.

Makes one wonder outloud if the so called lack of tuition students is a direct reflection of Bw's lack of success against the Cardinal Barbarians in recent years. Rome, I mean Ft Mitchell, has been sacked and looted 3 years and running now with a strong possibility of it happening again this year so the effects of not getting to the title game would start to be felt. I'm sure that one of the attractions for a tuition kid that is looking at making a school choice in NKY is the chance to get a title to go along with a good education. While I think the Bwians are trying to put on a strong public face the reality for this year was likely not going to be real good anyway given the graduation of so many starters from last year. They did appear to get some help via transfers but I have never felt it was enough to make them strong enough to return them to the promise land this year even after Mayfield lost Scott and Hughes. I also have to wonder aloud if a exit to Frankfort or to Mayfield could indanger Rash's job as the Tigers are not use to being bullied

I think if you're going to do a tuition search, then while you're at it, do one for Highlands. With the exception of these 2 schools, the only other consistently successful NKy teams are private schools, NCC and Cov Cath, with Cov HCross coming on lately. So, it would be interesting to see how many of the players at those 2 schools are out of district kids.

I was at the game and let me say that was the worst performance I have ever seen by a Beechwood team.....injuries or not, the line doesn't block, the QB is running for his life from the snap of the ball, the defense can't cover receivers....mmmm what do they do well? Against a team that nobody has going far in the playoffs.

 

The run has been over for Beechwood football and even with six classes this club will watch somebody else accept the crown.

Really? While it will for sure be a rough beginning to the season, there are still some athletes left and prospects are decent that Nuss and others will be back for the 1A games and into the playoffs. The problem is that many of the starters, including the seniors did not see much playing time last year at the Varisty level. The lack of experience showed greatly on Friday night. Beechwood plays a tough schedule for a 1A school. When you are inexperienced and have a few key injuries, it's going to hurt a bit. I have faith that adjustments will be made and confidence will build. It may not be this year or next, but Beechwood will not only compete for a championship, but will win 1 or 2 over the next 5 years.

 

As for the Tuition students, I don't believe any of the Injured players are tuition. Erdman and Nussbaum have been at Beechwood since Elementary school and both live in the district. That goes for biddle as well as Justice. I really don't know how many starters are tuition students. There may be more, but I can think of only 1 right now and he came to Beechwood as an Eigth grader.

Toothpick .. I have seen you try to stir the pot on two different occasions regarding Coach Rash's job being in danger ....

Give it a rest. (And don't start whining about "striking a nerve" ... the only thing you are trying to do is stir up trouble).

Now ... if I wanted to be a jerk ... all I have to do is say "Mayfield 2008".

(And we certainly have not .. and will not have the infighting and large scale issues you guys had that year--and I am 100% certain that no one from Beechwood tried to stir up trouble with you guys).

At the end of the day ... you have more clue what goes on at Beechwood than anyone up here would know about Mayfield.

 

 

As far as Holmes goes ... they did a great job.

I think that Coach Liggin and his staff have done an exceptional job.

They are building solid momentum for their program.

They may have things to work on (like everyone) ... but the constant undisciplined conversation is kind of old (because they have made huge improvements).

From my point of view ... it is much harder to get kids to play hard every down as opposed to being a disciplined football team.

Holmes plays very hard--and it is obvious that they are working as hard as possible to follow the instructions of their coaching staff.

That was one ugly football game. Penalties, turnovers, injuries, missed blocks, missed tackles I hope I never see another football game as ugly as that one. Holmes can't even line up on offense and run a play. I am not kidding. They must have had a half dozen delay of game penalties because they couldn't call a play and run it. You will not see a more undisciplined football team. I will give the Holmes coaches credit for a couple very good play calls on offense that came up big for them. But beyond that, ugly. Let there be no doubt though, they have players. Scruggs can fly. Peterson can get open when he wants. They have a number of other athletes that can make plays. Beechwood opened the door with turnovers and poor play early. Then as the injuries mounted, it became the Holmes varsity versus the Beechwood JV and they could not stop the Holmes athletes. Beechwood's coaches are going to have to dig deep to put this together. Next week it will be two teams in desperation mode - Beechwood versus Holy Cross.

 

Totally Agree! I have watched over 300 Beechwood football games and that was the ugliest one I have ever witnessed. Extremely painful to watch, but I'm confident that there will be plenty of positives this season and a decent run through the playoffs.

Here we go again. Top 5 in 1A, top 5 in N. Ky., 2 state titles and 3 state semi-finals in the past 5 years but Beechwood football is a thing of the past. What a joke! Thank goodness no one at Beechwood tucks tail and quits when faced with adversity like you obviously would. There will be some more adversity this season but the Tigers will get their experience, get healthy, get great coaching and be there when playoff time is here. It may not be pretty but it may be a lot of fun watching a team overcome the obstacles this team will be facing. I will be supporting and rooting for this team. I couldn't care less about what the 1996 team or any other one in the past did. That is all "history". You go ahead and focus on that and everyone else will focus on this year.

Not much to talk about in reguard to the Cardinals or for that matter anyone else way out west. Bw on the other hand is always got somthing or somebody talking.

 

Oh come on now QS, I love to give you guys a hardtime and you all know it, it's all good fun on here so my advice would be to take it light heartedly as VOR and others do. They all know I'm just taking light hearted shots and so do you but you let it get under your collar. That said, I would think the question about Rash is legit if you guys do not get out of the region. That would be a place I can't recall Bw every going before and as it stands now Bw is in a place it hasn't been in ages. So QS what do you think? will Rash be in jeopardy of getting canned if the Tigers fail to produce?

It isn't always about the line. Other players have to block also - fullback, WR's, RB. Also, both Holmes and SK have put 8 in the box. HC will do the same. Beechwood needs to find a a way beat that to give the line a chance.

No excuses. Just facts. The game was 7-7 till the last seconds of the first half and a 14-7 game till late in the 3rd quarter. It wasn't an easy win for Holmes. The Tigers defense in the second half was minus 8 starters including their 5 best defensive players. Just facts. You draw your own conclusions.

I hear what you are saying, but take any team, remove their 6 best defensive players and see how they look. That is what Beechwood dealt with in the second half. Starting defensive end Trey Hicks is out for the season with an ACL. Nussbaum was out before the game and he is their top defender. Entering the game the best defensive players, all district level players, were Erdman and Justice. Erdman knocked out at the start of the second quarter. Justice was playing great but then he left about half way though the 2nd quarter. That left Kinman as probably their best defender still on the field. He left the game just before halftime. At some point in the half Stokes was injured and never returned. Hmmm ... I wonder why Holmes was able to sustain a drive at the end of the half and get a score. Their first TD was on an INT return so the defense was solid till the injuries hit.

 

Then early in the second half two way starting lineman Biddle was injured. Soon after, defensive end Mitch McKenzie was injured. So now you have 8 starting level defensive players, including the 5 best defenders on the team all on the sideline. Tough for any team, especially a 1A team that was already inexperienced. Beechwood literally had their JV defense on the field plus about 4 regular 1st team level players for most of the second half. How many teams can win a game with that? No excuses, just facts.
