Barker was 4/10 passing, so what? How many did he run for? Like what was posted above, when a team has close to 500 rushing, there isn't a need to throw the ball. And I'd venture to say if Barker were 0/10 passing, but the team wins, he'd take it. From listening to the various interviews and reading numerous articles, I've gathered that's the type of players Conner has, unselfish.

Any intelligent fan of the game realizes that you don't need to pass when it's a blow out. Conner would have gotten an abundance of criticism if they would of aired it out and scored a 100. Barker played 2.5 quarters. Keep it real bro. Passing stats more than not are put up late when teams are trailing. Fact. When you know you are in control and have the game locked down, you don't pass. Study the game my friend.

Conner makes their statement tonight. I am not sure why there are posts attacking the Cougars. Cooper showed in their game against Boone that they are not the juggernaut they appeared they might be. The Cooper Conner game is shaping up as one of the games of the year.

Man, there is a lot of bitterness in this thread, and I'm not sure why. I can't imagine this is a rivalry game. Maybe there is some lingering ill will from HC fans because Trosper was at Holmes, but I'm sure I'm reaching on that.

 

After reading through the posts though, I wonder what some of you are thinking. Comments about Conner being a two man show baffle me. Someone obviously blocked for them, adn based on the yardage did it well.

 

Cooper also seems to have two players that stand out the most offensively. Yet I haven't seen many people calling them a two man show.

 

I thought about this once, and decided if I were a coach I'd probably want the ball in my best players hands as much as possible. Everyone else would know their role, do their job, and we'd give ourselves a chance to win every week. Groundbreaking I know, but seems Conner and Cooper are both doing it successfully. Setting up a pretty good game in 5A, I'd take Conner by a little if I had to choose today.

Conner can not handel coopers speed nor there phiscal play they will be playing catch up the whole game when they meet.

A not so good team? This comment coming from the guy who, in the prediction thread, said that HC would blow Conner out? Not standing behind your predictions I see... Holy Cross will bounce back, they have some athletic players in skill positions, they have potential to be a strong team. They will do fine in 2A.

 

I don't see any Conner fans on here "bragging" about beating HC. All I see is people posting stats to prove points, nothing more, nothing less. The boys in Hebron have already focused all of their attention on Dixie.

Went to this game last night and came away very impressed with Barker. Throws the ball extremely well and can also make big plays running the ball. Also liked what I saw from Fogle, a very good athlete who makes big plays. Only negative I came away with if there was one was their defense gave up a few big plays. They will need to tighten that up as they get further into their season. The Conner/Cooper matchup should be a good one at the end of this month.

Yeah, there does seem to be a bit of anger on here tonight. HC (and their followers) need to realize that they have just played two very good higher classification (and bigger) schools. It is obvious that they lost a lot of good seniors from the state championship team. But their core now can win if they get their act together, listen to their coaches, and play their games. They have a LOT of work to do.

 

IMO Conner and Cooper have slightly different styles. Both teams beat HC significantly and that is all that matters. In my previous post, I picked Conner over Cooper even though I felt Cooper dominated HC in a shorter period of time than Conner did. I pick Conner in the big matchup to come because they look like they can wear a team down. The main reason is that Conner is at home. In jest, I give points to the Conner band that never stops playing and the slightly annoying PA announcer who is still cheerleading with his team up 40! But that's why they call it a home field advantage! HC does the same thing at their home games by forcing the visiting team to be on the near sideline with the home fans.

In all fairness to the other receivers for Conner, they did not really get any opportunities. I would venture to say that of Barker's 10 pass attempts 6-7 were targeted to Fogle. It is not that the other Cougar receivers are incompetent because all of the receivers were open almost all night; it was just a case in where Barker targeted Fogle frequently and when they did connect the plays resulted in touchdowns.
