HC scored twice in the first string on two blown coverages, then once more when the jv was in. I don't care what anyone says, when a team can score 36 points in a 9 minute stretch, they are dangerous. Cooper Vs Conner will be a good game, but I don't see Cooper being able to score with the cougars.

 

to be correct when hc put up their 3rd score, conners DL and LBS were all still on the field maybe a sub or 2 in the secondary....but still mostly the starting def. they were not pulled until about 8 min left in the 4th qtr. i know this because they didnt change until hcs jv had their 2nd series on offense.

 

 

Also no Cooper cant score with Conner, the problem is Coopers defense will not allow Conner to score at will, cooper will be able to still move the ball on Conner though, resulting in a Cooper win.

Trail played. He is much more effective than Gabbert. He did not play in the Cooper game. Can't compare the two games. Trail will really help HC come 2A time. Keep hatin. Love it.

Their linebackers filled wholes as soon as they were open. Conner did not. Offensively Cooper's defense created a lot of short fields for the offense. Conner's option play will not be as effective against Cooper.

Offensively Cooper had good passing and good running, Conners defense was not impressive to me and I think Copper will score more than they give up.

Yes, Clyde, Conner got 477 yards on the ground (296 and 5 TDs from Fogle and Barker).

 

This game was very competitive into the middle of the second quarter. Holy Cross let the game go to pot in the last few minutes of the first half. The Indians made numerous mistakes on both sides of the ball. There were certain plays that were coached on, but did not defend properly. Offensively, there were many dropped passes. I am very concerned about the tackling of the Indians (needs to be fixed now). Mitch Trail came in as QB for HC and provided a spark. He is quick in the pocket and has a very fast accurate release. He appears to have a bit of rust. He had a couple of picks where he just threw the ball up for grabs. Beal had his bell rung early in the game and sat on the bench for most of the game. The Indians do not much on the ground. Happy for Pangallo with 3 TD catches.

 

That said, I promised in a previous thread that I would do a comparison of Conner and Cooper based on the common opponent, Holy Cross. Conner is a very good football team. So is Cooper. Conner is "thunder", Cooper is "lightning". Conner wore down HC. Cooper hit HC so quick and hard that HC had no answer. Cooper put a running clock on HC early - they could have scored a WHOLE lot more than 49 if not for that. Conner did not hit the 46 point spread until very late in the game. So 49 vs. 67 is not a good comparison. In fairness, neither is 7 vs. 21 points scored by HC. Against Conner (in the first half), HC felt like that they might be a big play away to stay in the game. Didn't feel that way at all against Cooper. Barker is a load to bring down. He is quite the big time prospect. Fogel is very fast. The Cougar O-line opened some big holes. Cooper did the same against HC. Their runners and receivers seem more elusive (Morgan, Collins, Brooks, and Morgan). Obviously, I can't speak to the other common opponent - Boone County. My educated guess on the game on 9/28 between Cooper and Conner is this - I think it will be a great close game and I would give a 3 point advantage to Conner because they are at home. If the game were at Cooper (which it isn't), I would make them the favorite by 7 points. Conner 31-28. I see that some of the HC posts on here think differently. That's fine.

What kind of season is Beal having from Holy Cross? I thought I'd hear his name more this season. I'm guess the large leads make the running attack a mute point.

Yeah, there does seem to be a bit of anger on here tonight. HC (and their followers) need to realize that they have just played two very good higher classification (and bigger) schools. It is obvious that they lost a lot of good seniors from the state championship team. But their core now can win if they get their act together, listen to their coaches, and play their games. They have a LOT of work to do.

 

IMO Conner and Cooper have slightly different styles. Both teams beat HC significantly and that is all that matters. In my previous post, I picked Conner over Cooper even though I felt Cooper dominated HC in a shorter period of time than Conner did. I pick Conner in the big matchup to come because they look like they can wear a team down. The main reason is that Conner is at home. In jest, I give points to the Conner band that never stops playing and the slightly annoying PA announcer who is still cheerleading with his team up 40! But that's why they call it a home field advantage! HC does the same thing at their home games by forcing the visiting team to be on the near sideline with the home fans.

With close to 500 yards rushing, Barker did not have to put it up much. He did have another passing TD called back for a flag. I would not read much into the 40% completion rate for this game. However, maybe to where you are headed with your point, other than Fogle, I was not impressed with the other Conner receiving targets.
