Penn State Bans Neil Diamond Song

Featured Replies

I think history has taught us the worst thing a college can do is to forbid or discourage anything. Makes it a thousand times more popular. Nothing like forbidden fruit for college kids.

Personally, in view of what was blatantly ignored for years, to focus on one song now is ridiculous.

They also pretty much just guaranteed that this song will be played at every road game from now on...

Is this ban still in place?

The Penn State baseball team is here for a 3 game series with USF. During the 8th inning stretch, as has been done for as long as I remember, and as is done with the Rays and Clearwater Threshers, "Sweet Caroline" is played and the fans sing along. The Penn State ban of it didn't dawn on me until halfway through the tune, at which time I looked at the visitors section. Nobody was singing.

Let's come up with a new song for PSU.

Why don't we do it in the road

the Beatles

So I'm taking that "I Touch Myself" will not be used at Penn State games?

Don't the Boston Red Sox also consider Sweet Caroline an anthem of some sort? What is the story? How did this song reach anthem status for these organizations? I like the song but I see nothing about it that would cause it to reach this status.

I went to a game in Boston back in the Summer of 2010 and they played this during the 8th Inning Stretch. It was absolutely an awesome experience. Combine that with "Shipping Off to Boston" when the closer comes in. Great time.

No idea about the story.

Guess this one is out:
