Cut means, sent home. You are the first person I ever heard say that "cut" means moved down to another team.

It's Semantics...he was cut from the Varisty list, therefore he was cut from the team, so there is truth. Since the Varisty team and JV team are two different teams, he was most certainly cut from one of them. The white lie is where everyone thinks he didn't make any of the high school teams. And I blame that lie more on the media trying to sell insprining stories than Jordan.

I'm biased towards MJ. Not going to argue that. But this is an extremely self-rightegously written article. The writer could have gotten the exact point across without painting himself as the Humanitarian of the Year. Maybe that's my MJ bias, I don't know.

 

Jordan could do a lot of good for Pop. But just because he was his high school coach, doesn't mean they had the greatest relationship. As close as Jordan was to his father, as we all know, its not like Pop was a father figure to Jordan like many coaches sometimes are for young athletes. Do I think Jordan should help Pop...yes. But at the end of the day, that is his choice to do as he pleases. It's Jordan's hard work and determiniation that got him to where he is now and he has the "right" to help whoever or not help whoever he pleases.

Should Jordan financially help every single teacher he's ever had? Should he financially help every single person that's ever coached him in any sport? All the friends or acquaintances he's ever had? Every single person that asks? Or should we just let a writer from SI dictate who Jordan should help with his money? He was not found innocent in Colorado. The case was dropped when the alleged victim refused to testify. He then quickly settled a civil suit with her out of court that included a public apology. That's a big difference than being found innocent.

 

As for the not shooting thing, do you really think he was doing that to try and win the game or to show that the Lakers had no shot to win without him scoring? This happened after Barkley got on him for shooting too much.

It wasn't just Barkley it was everybody criticizing Kobe for shooting because the Lakers were up 3-1 over the Suns and blew that series lead because 'Kobe was shooting too much.' Nobody ever says anything when the Lakers win about his shooting. Soon as they lose...Kobe shoots too much. As I said, show me instances where Kobe has been as much of a tool as MJ. Kobe didn't hold USA Basketball hostage over the omission of what should have been a teammate. MJ did that.

MJ fed into that media spun lie when he brought Pop to Chicago and had the whole arena boo the man that cut him. MJ never once stopped the lie and he could have.

I'm more appalled with the way he treated this poor fella than the fact that he is ignoring his plight. And truthfully he doesn't have to spend cash to make it right but he's shown no concern to make it right at all. Just a cold human being.

I'm not at all. In fact it seems to me he thanked the coach for helping him out saying that nobody but he and his mom knew how much he helped him then jokingly said he tried to fix the mistake of cutting him. Just bc we may not like MJ's personality doesnt mean he owes this guy money. The person in this entire fiasco that comes off the worst to me is the writer.

A player that's sent to the minors is not cut, he's optioned. A player that tries out for a high school team is not cut, he's sent to frosh or JV. A player that doesn't make any team, is cut.

 

It's not a difficult concept.
