So you still think homosexuality is sinful?

Featured Replies

To be clear, you are saying my lustful thoughts , even if not acted upon, is a sin?

Jesus said that was true.

You've been dying to come out for years. What are you waiting on? It wouldn't bother me. I'll still go to Bengals games with you. I don't think you'll lose any members. Go for it Ru!!!

Jesus said that was true.

So can you say , as AT did, being a homosexual is not a sin but the act itself is?

Seems like rationalization to me that doesn't have support. If you're gay you're having gay thoughts about others. Seems like that leads to "being gay is a sin."

There are a lot of flaws with the chart, specifically with the "Because the New Testament says so" line of thinking. The "Adam & Steve" response is weak to (about population). The earth was much more populated a few chapters later when God destroyed the cities of Sodom in Gomorrah, partially because of their homosexuality.

I don't hear any crickets.
Hard to post with the site down for upgrades, so maybe there were some crickets.

I can't think that it is a sin. I just can't. One of my good friends from college was gay. There were rumors about him, but I never believed it b/c the guy was huge. He eventually told me that he was. Led to a lot of questions between him and us. One of those was, did you ever find a chick attractive. He said that he didn't. He appreciated a woman as beautiful but never felt any lust for one. This dude grew up in Hanover, IN. That isn't exactly the capitol of liberal thought. For him to be openly gay, in that community, there is no way that he chose that. He had huge internal battles over it. It really affected him.

As a result, I can't believe that the vast majority of homosexuals choose to be gay. While there is no proof of a "gay" gene, there isn't proof that something in the receptors is different in homosexuals.

It's not different than heterosexual acts of adultery. According to Jesus, the thought is the same as the deed (both are sinful). It's why all over the New Testament, you see the urgency in taking one's thoughts captive.

I like this box "So Modern Day Churches Live By All of Paul's Values?" Nope, we pick and choose. Just like everyone else who picks and chooses what part of scripture to believe and what they think has surely been outdated.

I understand what your saying. That doesn't make it one iota less sinful.

I personally have never questioned whether a person can be born with gay tendencies. The Bible is clear that all of us are born with a sin nature. I don't think I was taught to have a temper. Rather, I believe I was born with that.

If your temper causes you to sin, say you lash out at someone in anger, how do you deal with it? Should you repent of it, pray about it, and try your best to avoid that in the future? Or do you shrug it off, say "I was born with the temper", and hope God will give you a free pass on it?

So being gay is a sin, right?

Yes, it does. The institution of marriage is a man and woman being 100% committed to each other and living within their faith, whatever that may be, even if you believe in no God. Is it less because two men or two women make that commitment to each other? Can't believe that it is. The New Testament is about redemption and love. If you truly love another individual and fully commit to them, what is sinful about that?

Maybe this will make sense. I'll use this logic (maybe oxymoron for this topic) and see if some of you agree. I was born to love women. As I've gotten older, I have found that even the women I would have thought only moderately attractive when I was younger, I find more attractive now. I enjoy sex with women so much that I just can feel like it's sinful to have sex with as many as I can. I'm married, but my desire for women still is something I'm born with. It's in my nature. It was good for Solomon, why can't it be good for me? I don't think that scripture can really place a parameter on my lifestyle because I was born to love women. As many as I can while my equipment is functional.

Sin? OR not?

Exactly my point. No one encourages me to let my temper go as it pleases & then use the "I was born this way" excuse as a crutch.

A major part of the Bible's story is that we're corrupted with a sin nature & that nature needs replacing with the Holy Spirit.
