So you still think homosexuality is sinful?

Featured Replies

Here is what I summarize from some of the gay supportive posts in this thread or any thread on this topic. I think I have it right, someone correct me if I am wrong. Here goes...

People who are gay were born that way. Choosing your sexual preference is no different than picking your skin tone. Homosexualality is not a moral issue, it's a natural, "however you turned out" issue. Being anti gay, is more or less being a bigot against those who

were naturally born that way. Society and religion needs to get a grip and let people be who they are.

Does this capture one of the strongest, if not the strongest argument for gay acceptance? Am I understanding correctly?

I don't necessarily agree with this. All I'm saying is some people are just wired differently. I'm pretty sure my cousin didn't choose to be estranged from his family and friends, going through years of denying what he was. He tried hard, dated several very nice-looking chicks, but ultimately dudes was where it was for him, and he's a lot happier person because of it.

I think the ultimate problem is that the choice angle is what jibes with Bible-tossers' sense of "God makes no mistakes" and/or "God has his reasons," which I can't abide with.

Jim You don't agree with any of my summary or just the bold reference to natural?

I am only asking because to me, my summary captures what you are saying about your cousin. In referring to him, you stated that he was "wired differently", he didn't choose this, and that he had spent years denying who he was. I am assuming from these statements that you would agree or believe that your cousin was simply born this way, which was the gist of my summary. Perhaps my use of the word natural was not the best choice and muddied the water. When I used it, I was was only referring to the fact that, if your born with a specific sexual preference, its only natural that you follow that preference, regardless of what family, society or "Bible-tossers" try to tell you.

Nobody gets up one morning and says, "You know what, I think I'm going to be gay today and see how that goes." Something changes their preference before they are born, and what that "something is," we don't know. It may be genetic, it may be prenatal, it may be affected by some environmental factors (in the sense of nurture). But whatever makes gay people who they are is no more a "lifestyle choice" than whatever it is that makes someone prefer mashed potatoes over broccoli. Now, as to the homosexual act itself being a sin -- well, that is something to be decided in the realm of one's own personal faith.

You are right to an extent. But, I should add one point on this subject. I don't prescribe to the theory of telling consenting adults what they can or can not do in the bedroom.

I agree. It seems like those who say they want less government in the lives of people scream loudly who and what people can be and want to make laws denying those people things that others are able to do.

 So anything outside the bedroom is fair game to govern?

I'm pretty much against government control, period.

Well Jim Shue on the subject, my niece came out of the closet, saying she is know gay, please everyone pray for me, this is a shock. She says every guy she had been with treated her bad or cheated on her, and she wants to and has a realtionship with another female. I liked to loose my mind, and I told her so. And reminded her they do the same thing on "that side of the fence" too. Not to mention this female has a criminal record and I scares me to death on how secure my niece's 1yr old baby boy might be affected as well as his security.

I feel your concern. I would have to ask, though, has she ever shown any inclination toward that behavior before? Maybe she had a bad breakup last time and is just experimenting? (something that happens a lot, with women especially)

I would state that in my cousin's case, it most certainly wasn't him experimenting. He moved out west to follow his boyfriend.

I kinda feel the same way my sister says, she is exploring that part of her life and she may come out of it, I have never known her to even like being near people like that, she once was kinda of nervous at a amusement park about a lesbian couple were "checking" her out and she asked a brother-in-law of mine if he would trade places is line with her. I don't know anymore.
