North College Hill (Cincinnati, OH) vs Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, VA) 8:00 pm Considered by many prep basketball analysts as the game of the year, the North College Hill vs Oak Hill Academy game features two of the nation’s top high school teams. The storied Oak Hill basketball program is currently ranked #2 while NCH is ranked #6 by USA Today’s Super 25 Rankings. NCH features arguably the nation’s top two junior players. Basketball fan’s eyes have been on OJ Mayo (26.7 ppg in ’04) since his 7th grade season. Mayo is currently ranked the top junior by Rivals and Scout recruiting services and is seen by many to be the nation’s top prep basketball player. Teammate Bill Walker (19.6 ppg in ’04) is ranked the #2 junior by Rivals and #4 by Scout. Oak Hill Academy features an explosive offense, which averaged close to 90 points a game last season. Leading the Oak Hill charge is PG Tywon Lawson ( 9.2 apg in ’04) who is ranked the #8 senior by Scout and #13 ranked senior by Rivals. PF Michael Beasley will look to challenge Mayo as the nation’s top junior. Beasley is currently ranked #2 by Scout and #3 by Rivals.

Dayton Dunbar (Dayton, OH) vs Cincinnati Taft (Cincinnati, OH) 6:15 pm The second game of the Classic will feature a matchup of last year’s Division 2 Dayton Regional Championship in which Dayton Dunbar defeated Cincinnati 80-72 in Overtime. Dunbar looks to rebound from last year’s state semi-final loss and compete for this years Division 2 title. Led by SG Daequan Cook (21.7 ppg in ’04), ranked the #16 senior by Scout and #20 by Rivals, Dunbar hopes their team can live up to this season’s expectations. The key to their success, however, may lie in the hands of Junior Center Aaron Pogue (16ppg in ’04). Cincinnati Taft features SG Heath White (22.7 ppg in ’04) and PF Brandon Russ (11.4 ppg in ’04). After a strong run in the tournament, Taft will be hungry for revenge against Dayton Dunbar.

Covington Catholic (Park Hills, KY) vs Ryle (Union, KY) 4:30 pm The early game in the Classic triple header will match up two of Northern Kentucky’s top programs. Covington Catholic made a strong run at the Region 9 crown last year with a 23-7 record. This year’s team is led by guards Tim Tierney (6.0 ppg in ’04) and Todd Jacobs (6.2ppg in ’04) and Center Michael Young (5.3ppg in ’04). Ryle High School is looking to rebound from a disappointing 10-11 season. Ryle is led by Junior Guard Robbie Lykes (9 ppg in ’04). Last year’s match up saw CovCath pull out a 62-50 win.

Question? December 22nd the tickets went on sale?

Yes. I bought several 4th, 5th, and 6th row tickets via TicketMaster in December, albeit 2 and 3 at a time, but in seats behind each other in groups. I tried to buy them 4 or more at a time, but could not get good seats. The four lower sections ($25) on both sides foul line to foul line were pretty much sold out last week. Again, my hint is to try to buy 2 or 3 at a time in the same section and you might get lucky and get them right behind each other ;)
