2023 Outcome

Record: 10-2

A season of high expectations got off on the right foot with a three score win over Newport Central Catholic. The year peaked at 7-0 and a top five ranking before the Juggs ran into a brick wall against Lexington Catholic and fizzled out in the second round against East Carter.

2024 Outlook

The offensive prospects look very promising, with all top playmakers - namely Sebastian and Collins Comer - back on that side and hopefully a full season from Evans at QB. Several holes need filling on defense with the bulk of Lloyd's production from that side walking the stage this spring. The schedule offers opportunities for another fruitful season, but Lexington Catholic looms as the district roadblock.

Junior Varsity Schedule

That is the correct date for week 1 as well as the start date for most, if not all, NKY games.

I don't think so. Week 1 should be August 23, Week 11 is November 1. Thanksgiving is November 28/29 so that will be the state semifinals, with the championship games December 6/7.

JUGG WARRIOR #2 is completed ✔️. Nothing like a beautiful Thursday morning to wake up early and knock out a 6am intense workout just as the birds are waking up. That’s exactly what 46 JUGGERNAUTS did this morning. It’s awesome to see this teams dedication to get better and strive for success. Once again the leadership in this group of JUGG WARRIORS has been outstanding.

What a season for Lloyd. 10-2. What a great start. How about that opening win over NewCath. Who outside of Lloyd saw that coming. What a great team name. The Juggernauts. What a defense. 41 sacks! They may be hard pressed to repeat 2023 though I wish them the best. They had 32 players sophomore and up last year and 17 graduated. That's a lot of aisle-walking. Probably too much for a small team like Lloyd. That said, they have some nice players coming back especially on offense. Both guys who played QB should be back. Kaleb Evans and Isaiah Sebastian. Yurii Collins Comer and Sebastian were the top two rushers. Both averaged around 9 yards per carry. Sebastian, Tyler Copeland, Elijah Collins and Nishawn Golsby were the top four receivers. If they can rebuild the O-line they should score. Of their top dozen tacklers, they lost eight so a little concerned about the defense. Could be some serious shootouts with Lloyd this season. That could make for some entertaining football.

Lloyd 9-1 heading into the playoffs? Hard to write off NCC in week one but I see similar situation as last year for them. I believe Lloyd gets the best of them in a closer game than the one last year because NCC will not be caught off guard by the amount of talent Lloyd has. I know Lloyd graduated a lot of players that played in the trenches but they return so many of their skills players on offense and defense. A bunch of them have been contributors for many years now and believe they have what it takes to keep the train rolling. Disappointing loss to East Carter in the playoffs should have the returning players motivated. Also have heard that there is a group of hungry incoming freshman that could be pushing too see the field on Friday nights which should have the upperclassmen not taking anything for granted. For majority of Lloyds games last year I know that their JV/underclassmen got to see large amounts of playing time in the 2nd half of games due to the deficits they were winning by at half time and that could be critical experience that ends up paying off for them this year. Caught a couple Tichenor games last year and they definitely had a handful of kids that looked like they could be building blocks for the years to come especially if they are competing with and learning from the upperclassmen in the program right now. Really curious to see how that offense clicks with Evans coming back because he can really really sling the ball around and Sebastian being as dynamic of a playmaker as he is I imagine they are finding multiple ways to get the ball into his hands. Biggest concern should be having that defense ready for a playoff run at the end of the year because the offense should be able to light up the score board.

I see Lloyd headed for a repeat of last year. Good regular season then the 33rd worst strength of schedule in 3A leads to a big disappointment in the playoffs. Hopefully Lloyd works hard on schedule improvement for 25-26.

@Colonels_Wear_Blue I agree on the schedule. There are some teams that should be swapped out next year but I think Lloyd loses alot after this year and will be really young the next couple years so that has to be taken into account also. Maybe 26-27 they get into it.

Thoughts on non district games.

NCC- Considered quality opponent and should be but them being in 1A I am sure doesn't help Lloyds SOS but is a good game for both schools right now especially at week 1. I like this matchup.

BCHS- Should be considered quality opponent for Lloyd but getting their butts kicked in 5A and Lloyds move up to 3A closes the gap and makes it seem less. They not only can't hang in 5A but program struggling in general probably doesn't help Lloyds SOS much if at all. Lloyd really shouldn't be able to hang with them but the emergence of Ryle/Cooper over the last 15+ years has really took its toll on BCHS. Good attempt at Lloyd playing up 2 classes but probably more of a feel good thing for the Juggs than anything if they pick up the W.

HHS- Holmes being in 4A should be considered another decent opponent but also they have been down so bad that the W won't do a thing for their SOS. Holmes puts together some good seasons now and again but won't be this year or for some years too come. Way too much talent from the city that has dispersed over the rest of Kenton and Boone counties and it has made it extremely hard for them to compete consistently. Will never forget Dasean Peterson taking Beechwood's soul in 2012-2013, no one would of thought Holmes had a chance to win that game(*Dasean's son and brother I found out recently are freshmen attending Lloyd and should be solid contributors for years to come if they don't transfer for more exposure).

Bethlehem- Not sure why Lloyd has them scheduled. If they were to pick up this 1A win it definitely doesn't do much for them. If they are to lose it doesn't look or feel good for the program.

Bishop Brossart- Another confusing game for Lloyd. I know BBHS has had some successful years and I think beat Lloyd a few years back but at this point what do the Juggs get out of them being on the schedule? If BBHS has a 9-12 win season does it help Lloyds SOS? Maybe a little but it does nothing for them in the long run

Newport- I think that this is still wanting to be considered a grudge matchup from when the two were in 2A. Newport was decent last year for what schedule they play but I don't see this game being competitive again. Newport down to 1A doesn't give Lloyd anything but trash talking rights and the way things are now Newport just turns around and demolishes Lloyd on the basketball court and the trash talk gets alot worse (I see that changing when Tay Kinney leaves. Lloyd missed out on Tay Kinney also but that's a totally different story)

Scott- Another good attempt at Lloyd playing up 2 classes. Scott should be able to handle Lloyd but pretty sure its been a long time since they were able to beat them and don't see it happening. I/we/you shouldn't keep knocking Lloyd for playing bigger schools, its more that the bigger schools should find a way to make sure they get it together and at least make it competitive. Like Bethlehem shouldn't be more competitive for Lloyd than Scott and Boone, which I see happening.  

I think out of Holmes, Brossart, Boone County, Bethlehem, Newport, and Scott 2-3 of those teams need to be off the schedule by 26-27. I don't know which side ended the Dixie and Beechwood games but one of those back on would make the schedule seem alot better. Maybe Conner, maybe a small Cincinnati school like some other NKY teams do. Lloyd use to play Bishop Ready out of Columbus. Simon Kenton could be a good grudge match against Roy Lucas Jr. Theres options out there because I don't think 5-6 blow outs benefits them too well. Maybe keep it at 2-3 blow outs.

We have some updates.

I was told some sad news that freshman WR/DB Marjay Peterson has broke his ankle. Prayers for him and his family that he gets healthy and everything works out for the young man. Was told he is struggling mentally at the fact it might be over for his freshman year not only in football but also basketball. Not quite sure the extent of the injury but being told the words "broken" this late in the summer is something no athlete ever wants to hear. He has a good support system behind him at Lloyd so I am sure they will help him get through it. Best wishes Juggs!

Years ago my son broke his leg right before freshman football playoffs.  He was heartbroken.  However, going into the off-season he worked and worked and the transformation from freshman year to his sophomore season was astounding.  Hope the young man's ankle break is not too serious, heals successfully and he can put in the work to become better than ever.  Good luck Marjay!

Yeah I have been around similar situations and seen it go both ways. It happening during a kids freshman summer could actually be a blessing in disguise if actually handled the right way and the injury isn't too severe. Especially when there is no freshman football team, it couldn't be the worst scenario possible. Get the body right and watch lots of film.
