I agree Steven is the one! This young man is growing like a weed! Saw him at Nothing but Net over the weekend. One word describes his ball handling. WoW!

Jason Covington looks like he will be a big plus to the Breds, young man has nice all around size.. I was up at NewCath this afternoon and stopped in the gym to watch some of the hoops practice and all I can say is......WOW, don't think there is a team in NKY that can come close to matching the size that the Breds have. Also 6'5" freshman Ben Weyer is going to be another stud, he has the potential to be just has good as McDonald. Highlands lost out on good one here.

 

How did Highlands lose out? Ben chose to go where he felt was his best opportunity to play basketball. He is playing JV at NCC and IMO would have gotten plenty of varsity minutes at HHS this year along with the chance to play with his peers that he played youth basketball with for many years.

Don't know the situation but he probably chose NCC over Highlands not for immediate varsity minutes but for the quality of team he will be playing on in the future.

Also consider, mom, dad, brother, & sister are all Highlands grads, I think it says if Highlands gave a crap about basketball I think he would be there.

It would be much more correct to say that the basketball program suffers from the success of the football program and a lack of basketball only athletes. It is not the fault of HHS or Coach Flynn that 8 of his top 13 players may not be on the court til December 1st. I saw first hand how much work Coach and the returning players put in during the months leading up to the dead period.

 

I can see where a bball only athlete would prefer to play at a school that has 90% of their roster available for open gym throughout the summer and into the school year. If the decision was based on the quality of team to be played with over the next 3 years, Ben is at the right place . The situation is not changing at HHS, at least not for a while.

Pretty bold statement considering what Grant accomplished and what Zach has potential to do. I know Stevie is a nice little player but in due time brother, in due time. Start a Middle School Hoops thread and start tossing around 7th grader names.

 

Let us not forget that he is a Dawn also, as in Ron's grandson. The bloodlines run deep w Stevie.

He is Grant's cousin, Zach will be a Sophomore. Grant is Jimmy's son, Zach is Chris's boy, but Steves son Steven, who is a 7th grader at Holy Trinity, is going to be better than all of them.

And Remember that Pangallo ( Steven ) is also a Dawn grandson .

Thats a pretty sweet combo! Breds look solid again this season with a ton of talent coming in the near future.
