The Breds will have a nice mix of players this year. They have a solid player at every position with many scoring options. I'm a big fan of team play, so I don't think Highchew will be missed as much as some think. Loved watching him play, but with the talent they have this year they will be better served sharing the ball more than they have in the past. Beuter and Seibert have nice size for their positions and can shoot from the outside. Not sure how deep they will be this year. Last year they had some role players such as Andy Miller that will be missed. My sleeper player this year is Jake Haas. Played mostly JV last year but can light it up. Plus teams will have to focus on the known stars. I think he could get some minutes that will haunt some other teams.

As for winning the region, Holmes will be hard to handle and the Cross has yet another transfer. Dixie sports one of the best players around and let's not forget about Cooper.

I look forward to see how the Breds play as a team. It should be a fun year in the 9th.

Its NewCath there is 1,000 pangallos and most are pretty good at basketball.

I can understand why you may feel this way but I can tell you that Beuter and Seibert can fill it up and it doesnt necessarily have to be from behind the arc. I know last year they struggled with those issues but I see it differently this season. I think McDonald and Schulte are a year away from the Pound it down low style of offense. I think they could be affective this year in that style offense, I just dont see it happening with Brannen.

 

McDonald will need to assert himself more and Schulte the same way. Schulte had a very nice final 10 games or so on the year so he may be able to transcend that into this season but McDonald seemed to fade a little and wasnt as assertive in the final part of the season. Both are studs and have a ton of potential.

 

I just think if the Breds go with Pangallo at the PG spot it will free up Beuter and Siebert for some very nice open looks. No more standing back watching Brady try and create.

McDonald was injured in late January and missed 2 weeks. He reallydidn't get back into playing shape until the last part of te season. He can't assert himself if he doesn't get the ball down low, and Schulte depends on McDonald getting the ball so he can free himself when the double team comes. Who knows who is right? Only time will tell, but my position is you pound it down low and make the defense double down and then go outside. They shot themselves out of the title last year with their "outside" game and will do it again if the big guys aren't an intregal part of the offense.

He is Grant's cousin, Zach will be a Sophomore. Grant is Jimmy's son, Zach is Chris's boy, but Steves son Steven, who is a 7th grader at Holy Trinity, is going to be better than all of them.

I think that Grant, has tried to make his team an inside-out team. The NewCath basketball culture has always been guard oriented, w/ the exception of Kiernan and Geisler led teams. It's tough to change that identity over night some seasons. This is rare for the Breds in that they have two very talented big men that will be together for 2 more seasons.

Don't doubt at all what you are saying. I just think McDonald will be a load to handle inside. Talked to people who saw him this summer and they said he just dominated down low against good compitition. It obviously is a good problam to have, but I just hope the ball goes inside first and they don't just let fly from the outside like they have in the past.

Didn't NewCath have a freshman last year named Bostic, son of former UC Bearcat Curtis Bostic? Is he still at NewCath. How is he developing and who is he playing summer ball with? How big is he and will he see any varsity time this year?

I dont see how that young man will see the floor with the depth they have on the Varsity level. Probably a nice future player though. Is NCC's schedule posted yet? If I was Brannen I would get them in some big tournaments and play a tough schedule.

Couldn't agree more. I believe they typically play a pretty tough schedule but playing in some big tournaments would only get them better prepared for the district and regional tournaments.

Just heard that Nick Seibert broke an ankle and is not playing in Indy with his AAU team, the Bombers. I wish him a speedy recovery.

Am I reading you correctly? You are saying the HEAD COACH has tried to tell his team how to play the game, BUT it is hard to get them to do it?

WHO is running the team? I always thought the coach indictated what he wanted done, and the players followed his wishes. That is what you have subs for. Either do it the coach's way or find someone who will. Nothing gets a player's attention more than some pine time. I don't think it's hard to change a "culture" at all. You just tell them what you want done and they do it. If he truly can't get the players to play inside out, outside in, play a running game, or slow it down, they need to get a new coach. You play the style game that gives you the best chance ro win with the players you have. Anything else is totally unexceptional at any level.

Not only that but he was going to be a big cog in their golf team that should be very good this year.
