Basketball season for 2012/2013 should provide another exciting year. What should we expect from Newport Central Catholic ? Remember, please be constructive.

Breds should be back at B.O.K.C. in the finals for the 3rd straight year. Return a very talented group, Michael Bueter, Nick Seibert, Zach Pangallo, Mac Franzen & two of the best "bigs" in the region in Jake Schulte & Drew McDonald.

No question they return talent, I wonder who will step up and take the leadership role to replace Brady. Can Grant get over the hump and win the 9th?

Agree that a leader must emerge. Also think a key will playing as a team, as I think this was a problem at times last in the games I saw them play. No doubt the talent is there, it is up to Brannon to mold them into a team and use all their talents.

Losing Brady hurts in the aspect that he was the one player that could create his own shot. I think, however, they will be better offensively as their ball movement will be much better. There was too much standing and watching Brady last year. Plus Schulte and McDonald are a year older. The offense will be an inside-out offense. That w the solid shooter and defense that they have, you are looking at a top team in the region.

Newcath will be tough to handle this season with McDonald and Schulte down low. If the Needs don't settle for threes they could head to Rupp for the first time since 2000.

 

Will be interesting to see how they defend smaller, quicker, more athletic teams.

Expect a lot of scoring out of Siebert and Beuter and a lot of rebounding from McDonald and Schulte.

To expect Seibert and Buetter to be the scorers and the two big guys to rebound results in a flurry of 3's when the ball should be going inside to the bigs for the first look at scoring and then kicked backed out if nothing is there. If Seibert and Buetter are their leading scorers they won't win the region.

You are EXACTLY right. At some point you would think the coaches would lay down the law, but it never seems to happen. It will probably be a long time before they have the inside offensive firepower they will have the next 2/3 years. If they fail to use it shame on them. There is NO excuse to have guys firing away from 23 ft. like they seem to love to do. Make the defense sage to help stop the inside game and then kick it out for the outside shot.

I can understand why you may feel this way but I can tell you that Beuter and Seibert can fill it up and it doesnt necessarily have to be from behind the arc. I know last year they struggled with those issues but I see it differently this season. I think McDonald and Schulte are a year away from the Pound it down low style of offense. I think they could be affective this year in that style offense, I just dont see it happening with Brannen.

 

McDonald will need to assert himself more and Schulte the same way. Schulte had a very nice final 10 games or so on the year so he may be able to transcend that into this season but McDonald seemed to fade a little and wasnt as assertive in the final part of the season. Both are studs and have a ton of potential.

 

I just think if the Breds go with Pangallo at the PG spot it will free up Beuter and Siebert for some very nice open looks. No more standing back watching Brady try and create.
