Am I reading you correctly? You are saying the HEAD COACH has tried to tell his team how to play the game, BUT it is hard to get them to do it?

WHO is running the team? I always thought the coach indictated what he wanted done, and the players followed his wishes. That is what you have subs for. Either do it the coach's way or find someone who will. Nothing gets a player's attention more than some pine time. I don't think it's hard to change a "culture" at all. You just tell them what you want done and they do it. If he truly can't get the players to play inside out, outside in, play a running game, or slow it down, they need to get a new coach. You play the style game that gives you the best chance ro win with the players you have. Anything else is totally unexceptional at any level.

Before Kienran, you have to go back to maybe Walsh in '93 and Sandfoss and Dance in '94 when you could say that the strength of the team was down low? Even then, Dance played as a guard most of the time. It doesn't happen every year for NewCath. Last year I believe that he wanted to go inside out, however with the inconsistency of Schulte, and the injury to McDonald, he wasn't able to see it through.

I just spoke to Nick this afternoon (in Indy). He has a high ankle sprain and was walking fine. He hopes to play tomorrow and is traveling with the team to WV for their next tournament.

That is really great news for that young man. I wish the best for him. I hate to see any kid with an injury especially going into his senior season.

A high ankle sprain is not a one day deal. I had one and was out for 4 weeks.

Newcath will be one of the top teams in the 9th region. The McDonald boy is a load and has great moves posting up. Bueter and Seibert are going to be the senior leadership that newcath will need this year. Bueter can handle the ball and has a great shot. Seibert is athletic and long and looks like he's been working on his game this summer say him play a few times in aau. Schulte boy is long and athletic as well goes about 6'8 now him and McDonald should work good together. Saw the Pangallo boy play over the summer he is a true point guard has great handles is very athletic and has a nice jump shot. If he runs the point it will free up Bueter and Seibert for shots and also you can tell Pangallo and McDonald have been playing together for a long time. Depout and the Franzen boy will be a important part of the Newcath team this year as well IMO.

Colin Dupont I presume. He will be an integral part as well and will provide solid Sr leadership. Franzen has a ton of potential and can knock down the open jumper. They will be very good.

It is always nice to be able to shoot the three, but I couldn't agree more with the bolded. They definitely need to pound it inside especially for the next two or three years with McDonald and Schulte.

 

Didn't NewCath have a freshman last year named Bostic, son of former UC Bearcat Curtis Bostic? Is he still at NewCath. How is he developing and who is he playing summer ball with? How big is he and will he see any varsity time this year?

 

Yes, Isaiah, transferred back across the river. Did hear tonight that they picked up a transfer from Holmes, in coming sophomore, didn't hear anything else about him.

Jason Covington is enrolled at NCC. He played a few games of frosh ball but mostly JV at Holmes last year. He is a nice player. NCC has a loaded sophomore class that gets better with his addition even with the loss of Bostic.

He is Grant's cousin, Zach will be a Sophomore. Grant is Jimmy's son, Zach is Chris's boy, but Steves son Steven, who is a 7th grader at Holy Trinity, is going to be better than all of them.

Jason Covington looks like he will be a big plus to the Breds, young man has nice all around size.. I was up at NewCath this afternoon and stopped in the gym to watch some of the hoops practice and all I can say is......WOW, don't think there is a team in NKY that can come close to matching the size that the Breds have. Also 6'5" freshman Ben Weyer is going to be another stud, he has the potential to be just has good as McDonald. Highlands lost out on good one here.
