June 28, 201214 yr There was a great deal of talk before the decision that if the AHCA was struck down that it would be a blow for Obama come November. Now that it has been upheld I'm hearing that it will be a blow for Obama. Hot air? Valid double talk? The only way it could have been a blow to President Obama is the way it came out. When the ruling came down and it said Chief Justice Roberts was the deciding vote I was FURIOUS! The I read Chief Justice Roberts opinion, I was shocked. The mandate has been ruled a tax, the single largest tax increase in history pretty much.
June 28, 201214 yr I see no reason that people should be forced to buy insurance but that makes no difference in this law. As we learned with the Arizona immigration law federal law supersedes state law and Yarmuth even conceded that a person could do this. Remember Yarmuth is one of the most staunch supporters of this thing. I'm not disagreeing with you just saying I don't think that plan will work.
June 28, 201214 yr Author There is not an unlimited supply of money. Adding folks that have not had health insurance and all of their ailments will undoubtedly increase the costs for everyone. It is simple supply and demand. The government will exclude themselves from participating and then subject all of us to this nonsense. Boon for the uninsured. I hope the laws are tougher for those that don't buy now, than the laws for not carrying auto insurance. (Those are a joke and rarely enforced.) Should I assume you do not believe there will be any costs going out the other end?

June 28, 201214 yr The strong possibility of going to a single payer system is one reason why I have been puzzled by strong conservative movement to over rule the mandate. For those strongly opposed to the mandate, would you prefer single payer or the mandate? Do you think a majority of Americans would be in favor of a single payer system (and I assume that the single payer would be the federal govt, correct?)? If the single payer would be the federal govt, how would the federal govt afford being the payer?

Ha, there will still be free insurance, Medicade and those who are too poor to pay will not have to. Uh since they can't afford to buy it and afford cigarettes at same time, so the poor will still go to ER for free and you get to still pay for it, just like always.
June 28, 201214 yr Author Question for those who know judicial protocol. A guy summarized it this way: President Obama wrote a bad term paper and instead of grading the term paper on its content the teacher suggested ways(ie tax vs Commerce Clause) to make it better. Is this unprecedented?
